    Disorganized and mismanaged mess

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFlexible and generous time off, excellent sick leave and health care benefits. Easy work that has no pressure to complete

ConsPoorly trained and clueless leadership. Managers are promoted based on time served and political connections rather than training and talent. Poor time management and work scheduling. Zero opportunities for pay raises or promotions for merit. Non existent training or job skill improvements. Top down directive management in an environment where employee input is prohibited.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo to a real training school and discover how to manage a company, Institute a program for continuing job skills training, then reward the workers for gaining new skills with increased pay or promotions. Stop treating everybody under you like they are 5 years old, take input from your subordinates and use the information to benefit the company.

    A Travesty

Transoortation Engineer (Current Employee) Richmond, VA

ProsIf you do not like Engineering, you may find a meaningful job. Positions best suited for this company are accountants, political climbers.

ConsIf the whole concept of engineering, efficiency, project design and management, task completion and ethics are important to you, then you're not a good fit. The top management has successfully encouraged so many employees to leave that they are now in the process of mass hiring.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire some engineers at the top who have the knowledge, ethics and stamina to remove the astounding political control. VDOT has been reduced to the equivalent of the man behind the curtain.

    State Employee

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsYou are not pushed into doing overtime since you don't get any overtime.

ConsWish salaries were better. We haven't gotten a raise in 4 years and insurance costs and other things keep on going up. We don't even get an increase due to cost of living. No parties or rewards for employees to do a good job because we use the Tax dollars.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive opportunities to people based on their work and not because they make you feel sorry for them or they are nice to you but don't deserve the raise.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
