Former Employee – worked at Virginia Transformer Corp. full-time for more than a year
Pros – you should not work for that company
Cons – do not treat people right, it is a revolving door specially for managers

Former Employee – worked at Virginia Transformer Corp. full-time for more than a year
Pros – It's a job. The training was pretty good. Most of the regular employees (non-managers) are good to work with. Job security is very good. It's very hard to get fired, engineers get moved to sales in lean times, and management will put the whole plant on a week-long furlough when it's really bad (it's a pay cut, but can be better than a random layoff).
Cons – Check out the reviews. From 2010 to August, 2012, there were only 6 reviews, all negative to mediocre . As one would expect for a medium-size company, there was one every few months.. Fast-forward to the week of August 15-19, 2012: 8 *glowing* reviews. I think Virginia Transformer management discovered glassdoor, and are trying to game the system.
Micromanagement, lack of trust, collaboration actively discouraged, pay and benefits are not very good, no concept of flexible time for salaried employees. No work/life balance (must use vacation time for annual plant shutdowns. Once vacation was gone, plant-wide furloughs cut at my pay.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't game the system. It's dishonest. Instead, take a look internally and treat your employees better. You've got some really smart people working there, trust that your employees can get the job done. Recognize good effort without stealing credit, and employees will be more willing to go above and beyond in the future. Don't treat your employees like cattle, and they'll work harder instead of stewing in resentment (and they'll also write honest reviews on their own)

Former Employee – worked at Virginia Transformer Corp. full-time for more than a year
Pros – The location is great! The industry is kind of interesting, and there are some very nice people that work there.
Cons – I think the envrionment can best be described as toxic. The very high turnover creates a constant feeling of instability. The leadership, and in particular the owner, have very little trust for others in the organization. As an example, salaried employees are expected to fill out timecards every week. People are basically treated like slaves, and the ethics of the most senior leaders are seriously lacking.
Advice to Senior Management – The reason turnover is so high is becuase people are made to feel like robots and cattle.

Current Employee – been working at Virginia Transformer Corp.
Pros – Good colleagues. Conscientious people. Interesting product.
Cons – Salaried turnover was incredibly high. The answer to every problem was that people were not working hard enough or long enough hours. President was a classic micro-manager. Very little trust up or down the chain. People considered expendible.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop treating your people like slaves.

Former Employee – worked at Virginia Transformer Corp.
Pros – Interesting industry, mostly hard-working employees.
Cons – Owner is a tyrant, labor is seen as expendable, leadership is not trained (good leadership is not validated by the president), wages are undercut by staff direct from India who will work for nothing and get quartered all together.
Advice to Senior Management – THIS IS NOT INDIA! Clean up your act, stop protecting lousy workers who are your friends. stop shipping in foreign labor then lying to american applicants about jobs being filled. learn that people don't work 24-7. be fair. be honest. give decent benefits. That place needs to unionize.
