I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

World class brand, best company in its industry by far, doing good for people in emerging economies. Good people, decent salaries, good benefits. New CEO and President are trying hard to focus and inspire the company and making some progress. Depending upon what part of the company you're in, there is interesting and innovative work to be had. Glad to see focus on merchants and their needs.

    Cons

Visa has lost its compassion for staff, especially those with experience and years of service, in its rush to be "cool" for new college grads and Silicon Valley kids. Diversity in the Technology organization is a joke. In the year he's been here, every single new hire the EVP of Tech has done at VP/SVP has been an Indian male. Most of the new SD's as well. The percentage of women in Tech at VP/SVP level is single digits and falling. If you're an Indian man, you're golden. If you're anything else and want more than an entry level job, consider a different place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't abandon the experienced and senior staff that got you here -- they built this place. Make a serious commitment to diversity and keep it.

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great, benefits. Very global. OK salary.

    Cons

Top down decision making, low levels of working employee empowerment, many management levels still afraid of change. Slow to adopt new technologies and improve internal processes, compare it to the UN from an administrative POV, i.e. getting something done takes time. HR is unreachable, layers and span limits strip excelelent managers from their staff in a completely arbitrary manner, salary/bonus/stock increases are thin and reducing. The new Technology leadership whirlwind creates worries. Finance and Risk are still in 1980s risk averse mode.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're on the right path, now accelerate. Review SVPs especially in the corporate functions.

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great global brand recognition. Deep level of experience across the company. Many employees have worked in multiple roles. Leadership seems to be working hard to improve the company culture and approach to innovation. Competitive compensation package. Nice SF office and shuttle service.

    Cons

Can be challenging competing with other companies in the Bay Area for talent. Large company trying to be more nimble and that isn't easy. Breaking down silos is essential to getting things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inspire and lead with data. Hire leaders (whether they are people managers or not). Empower employees to take meaningful risks to achieve goals. Move faster.

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, decent benefits. Interesting work. Some cutting edge technology.

    Cons

Agree with other comments about sr mgt. if you work for a powerful group and are one of the favorites of a given manager, life at Visa is good. For everyone else it's a struggle - lots of behind the scenes passive aggressive behavior to cause projects to fail or be cancelled after a lot of work and money spent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better project approval and control up front to ensure vision is clear and projects are aligned with corporate goals.
