Stable, solid, excellent benefits, company culture looks down on contractors.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Ashburn, VA

ProsExcellent 401k, great benefits otherwise, time off sometimes hard to take but depends on work load.

ConsMost departments seem to run very lean on staff.

Good work environment, good people, but a lack of strategic direction and decision making

    Director (Current Employee)

ProsGood work /life balance and good people to work with. There are opportunities to learn and grow in my career

ConsAt times it feels like this company does not know what it wants to be or focus on. There is a lack of strategic direction and decision making about where we want to be in 5 years.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake firm decisions and then let's go! And give employees opportunities to stretch and take on new roles. It's very easy here to get stuck in a role for a long time. Moves to other parts of the business are not always encouraged.

    So far so good.

Business Analyst (Current Employee) Foster City, CA

ProsSmart people, lot's of events for employees, free tickets to awesome sporting events

Overall, my experience with VISA has been great so far. As an intern, I expected to be doing boring unimportant work. Instead, thus far, I have been an important part of the team.

ConsNot enough collaboration! The employees all sit very close to each other in little cubes, yet it seems like people hardly talk to each other. There is not much of a community feel at Visa.

Advice to Senior ManagementHalf the employees have never seen the CEO's face. Charlie and the rest of the executives, y'all should be more visible. It will immediately make your employees like you more. Also, the private jet thing seems unnecessary.

    An American Standard

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSalary, Benefits, and challenging opportunities. Those dull moments are rare. There are opportunities to move within the organization. The new leadership is making a difference to the culture and tone of the company.

ConsHuman nature's self-preservation drive is rampant in the old guard. Consequently, organic dynamism and opportunities for new ideas often meet with resistance. Layers, layers and just a few more layers are never enough at Visa. If fond of meetings, presentations and processes - look no further.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep making changes the old guard is way too comfortable.

Center of payments industry, dominant set of information, best visibility on global commerce

Manager (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsYou are at the center of global consumer commerce. Best in the world for that visibility into consumer spend globally. You get good work/life balance, good pay, reasonable amount of pressure. Decent fair hours. Reasonable professional place to work, impressive company brand name. Looks good on your resume. Because of Visa's dominance in the payments industry, the brand name and the power of Visa helps open doors for you at many tech companies and startups.

ConsCompany is going through a massive restructuring, some job elimination, compression of organizational layers, everyone at all levels might be at risk. Many employees I believe are uncertain and generally uncomfortable. You need to have a backup plan if you are going to work here. Given this, it is difficult to choose Visa if you have a competitive good job offer from Google, Apple, PayPal, or any of the many large funded about to IPO or get bought out payment startups. This particularly true if you are a new undergrad or graduate student without much experience. If you don't have a job offer from the top firms mentioned above, then Visa is a great choice for you. It is not easy to get a job offer from Visa, if you do, feel fortunate. If you survive the restructuring, then you could have a good long career ahead of you at Visa.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate opportunities so staff can try new jobs with greater responsibility. Develop your people by creating opportunities. It would be new to create a career development plan that shows employees what they need to do to get promoted. It is a black box.

    Good experience as a contractor

    Business Analyst (Former Employee)

ProsEnvironment is driven by performance more so than titles/stature, works to the benefit of contracting staffers.

ConsSenior Management often takes talent of non-FTE staff for granted. Strategic objectives often withheld from contract staff, when in fact, Visa could potentially benefit from non-FTE input.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook to contracting staff as opportunities for longer-term/FTE advancement - versus drawing exclusively from internal candidates.

    Great salary and benefits

Network Engineer (Current Employee) Highlands Ranch, CO

ProsGreat Salary, benefits. Each employee in my team is free to chose the trainings they wish to take. Work/life balance is also good.

ConsThe company is still top heavy. Lots of management layers. Seems like promotions do not come easy.

Advice to Senior ManagementLooks like flattening the 'top heavy' part of the organization is under progress - which is good.
    Give more promotions to people.
