    Pros

    You have employment and it's not McDonald's.
    You get to dress up everyday

    Cons

    You can do all you can to maximize your sale and the customer gets the cheapest of the cheap but the kicker is you get penalize. Retail supervisors and GM don't do a good job of delegating sales. Pretty much If it's you and a member of management working that day you won't hit your sales goal. They're like lions over antelope. Quite a few lions can feed off one but when you come around they hog the antelope all to themselves. When you try to hunt your own antelope (customer) they come swoop in and take your kill despite them not being done with their own meal!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Team oriented goals as a whole.
    Eliminate individual sales goals.
    Regionals checking with eyewear specialists to make sure everything in terms of being a member of the staff is fair. Regional managers have to understand an employee isn't just a sales number

    Union job and union benefits

    Cons

    - Management reaps all the bonuses.
    - We have a uniform that's 3 basic solid colors, but they don't call it a uniform do the cheap badtards have an excuse not to give any funds to cover the cost of such uniform clothes. Even McDonalds gives FREE uniforms!

    Pros

    Some of the staff if great

    Cons

    One of the worst places I've ever worked for. They not only treat you like garbage but they they force you to do things you.may bit want to do. They make you get a license you have no intention on having and worst of all when I was moving on to something in my field they told me after they forced me to get the license that I had to pay 400 dollars for it before I quit. When I told them I felt that wasn't right they just up and took the money out of my paycheck. I also tried to put in a notice for leaving and they told me they were going to put me on a don't hire again list anyways. The atmosphere of the work was bad the job was bad and the manager was by far the worst. She was very inconsiderate to her staff and she treated them like they were her slaves and they had to do everything her way or she would make there lives a nightmare at work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop screwing over your employees they ate the ones that do the hard work and don't steal from them own up to what you made them do and make them feel happy to have worked for a company like this. Learn to treat the associates with respect and create an atmosphere not so hostile.

    Pros

    The Corporate Office is filled with a diverse mix of talented and fun people.

    Cons

    If you work here you will see and hear the phrase "Directors and above" quite often. Because that is all this companies cares about. They are the only staff who receive bonus and therefore they collectively protect each other at all cost. The Human Resources Department should be renamed the "directors and above" protection bureau.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Trust your talent pool. It's the greatest resource. Eliminate the "good ole boy" philosophy and get rid of that "special consultant" from Denver who serves no purpose. Maybe also investigate why your ambitious talent is leaving en masse.

    I have been working at Visionworks part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    You make commission that increases every $50,000 in sales.
    Free vision insurance and 50% discount after insurance is used as well as for friends and family.

    Cons

    Part time is ONLY GUARANTEED 4 hours a week, based on performance (or in my case, if the GM likes you or not) and UP TO 20 HOURS a week. So your hours are uneven and unguaranteed.
    Management is completely erratic. The company will train you at one store and work you at another. The way I was trained worked well when I trained and got me i trouble at the other. Corporate keeps changing policies and it causes confusion and frustration with employees and customers. Sales are driven by money and reaching quotas. Nothing else. Dishonest sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat people like they are valued and have a set policy that your stores follow. Increase pay. People cannot live off of 4 hours a week. Favoritism is not okay from a GM and should be penalized.

    Pros

    2 free pair of glasses every year.

    Cons

    The company has a set of core values, one of which is integrity, but managers lie, break labor laws, etc. and nothing is done, they are simply moved to another store. Retaliation is commonplace and good employees with experience are kept from moving forward. The Home Office comes up with ridiculous coupons and promotions which cause severe money loss and they ignore the people on the front lines who have great ideas on how to build the company. I'm so worried about retaliation from management I cannot even list my correct title or length of employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It is not enough to sign paychecks, you have to show your employees you respect them. Listen to front line employees and stop giving glasses away at 80-90-100% off. Enforce the no retaliation policy and give employees the chance to voice their concerns. PROMOTE FROM WITHIN.

    lots of advancement opportunities because of high turnover.

    Cons

    micro managers, upselling is a must-even if it isnt a benefit to customer. product of labs is awful. long hours, high turnover.

    talk to employees in the stores and u will find out what needs changed-ALOT!

    The unionized stores (NY, MA, RI) have better pay but management appears lost and confused.

    Pros

    Co-workers are good and the union negotiated benefits are even better.

    Cons

    Management is lost. I work in several stores and each one has it's own rules. Managers nit-pik details (like carrying the glasses around on a velvet tray) while customers wait an hour for service. Busy stores are always badly understaffed. Frames are cheap Chinese made junk for the most part. Ordering supplies is a nightmare and we often run out of critical supplies. All management cares about is upsell-upsell-upsell!

    Get some good professional advice on how to run your stores.

    Good doctors, flexible scheduling, free glasses once a year

    Cons

    Management sucks. Lazy, won't help in situations in customers. very disorganized. Way too much work for bad pay. will cut hours if numbers aren't up.managers only care about numbers. Just overall crappy job.

    Pros

    Assisting patients to understand their optical prescriptions.

    Cons

    There is very little honest support from territory directors and human resources. Sales Associates are just that - SALES Associates. They are not trained properly on optical dispensary. In fact, territory directors discourage GM's from training properly with regards to optical prescription needs and proper adjustments of frames. Instead, they use bully tactics to harass and intimidate associates and GM's to sell, sell, sell-who cares what is best for the patient.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    VP's and above: take an anonymous survey of your Associates, Third Keys, RS's, Lab Supervisors, and GM's with regards to proper work/life balance, quality of training, quality of leadership, quality of corporate/home office support - what you will discover from this type of 360 Performance Review (only if you keep it anonymous) that your TD's and HR staff DO NOT support their "teams". Instead they are true bullies and manipulative career hungry back-stabbing - well just everything that HVHC's published Core Values are NOT.
    Are $$ profits more important than the health of your customer's eyesight? Are $$profits more important than the health and well being of your employees?
