I worked at Volt Information full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Outstanding supervisor, great benefits. The company allowed you to run your office as if it were your own company as long as it was in line with company overall values.

    Cons

Not a whole lot of advancement available past branch manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to stay in tune with your staff!

    Once a great family company...

I have been working at Volt Information full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, Volt attracts talented folks of diverse backgrounds which make for a very interesting work environment. There is much less internal bickering and backbiting than in many organizations. Work hours and locations are very flexible.

    Cons

The culture is rapidly changing. Volt was once dominated by the Shaw family who ran it like a benevolent meritocracy (which was ideal to me!). It is moving toward becoming a nameless, faceless corporate entity. There is very little fun left here...we were once all part of the family, not so much at all now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Once very profitable lines of business are wearing thin but Volt has the people and infrastructure to succeed. Consider reaching out to new endeavors.

I have been working at Volt Information

    Pros

Good stepping stone to computer industry.

    Cons

Running automated tests everyday, and having developers close bugs as won't fix wasn't very rewarding.

I worked at Volt Information as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

I had contracts that paid well through Volt. They were usually long term (1yr+). They worked to find other opportunities if your contract ended.

    Cons

No chance to earn paid time off. No holiday pay until after working 3 months. It's not fun to work on a holiday making straight pay while others around you make so much more for the same day.

Former Employee - Branch Administrator in Woburn, MA
Former Employee - Branch Administrator in Woburn, MA

I worked at Volt Information full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Branch offices are kept generally small, creating a strong team environment with your co-workers. Ability to transfer/travel between branches, or work onsite with large customers.

    Cons

Some dysfunction/inconsistencies between regions and offices make streamlined procedures difficult. Lack of training creates problems with offices where administrators are not willing to learn on their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Branch audits and compliance checks would ensure consistency from branch to branch. A better structure for branch administration would create a better training/growth path; there should be a receptionist/admin assistant at the front of the office to greet and do basic administrative duties, who would learn and grow into Branch Admin role when the existing BA moved into another position.
