    Politics and deadwood

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) South Portland, ME

ProsThere are some decent and smart people, but watch your back. If you put in the years, you can take month long vacations. Company is well positioned and makes a lot of money.

ConsLifers hanging on because they know they are antiquated and could never come close to what they are being paid by Wex. Very rigid bureaucracy. Fiefdoms are everywhere.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Overall friendly ethical company but lacks in training and direction

    Regional Sales Manager (Current Employee)

ProsHealthy finances, growing, national and growing internationally.

ConsDisorganized structure. For example one manager may cover many different brands from coast to coast, so your team mates are your direct competition. Too much focus on CRM tool. Unrealistic quotas.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpeak to your staff more and get more down to earth as far as expectations

    OPPRESSIVE work environment

    Sales (Former Employee)

ProsGood, competitive products/services. Good company vision. Pretty good benefits and co 'perks'. Co car, corp card, matching 401k, flex spending, reward cards, awards

ConsSales Mgmt (at all levels) irrational and unsupportive. Most 'lead' through threats, negative reinforcement and ridiculous micromanagement. Highly inflexible to change and poor communication skills. Set unachievable goals and expectations. (VERY small % achieve them)

Advice to Senior ManagementHire some unbiased, experienced, well trained outsiders who can actually 'help' grow sales, improve morale, communication and internal procedures. Focus more on experience and proven success as opposed to always promoting from within ~ those who fit the 'existing club' mentality. Mgmt w/ positive, rational temperments and open communiation style ~ should have a trickle down effect. It all starts at the top!

Sales management is new and destroying the sales engine that got the company to where they are today.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCompany as a whole is moving in the right direction with very strong senior leadership.

ConsMicro-managed. Reviews weekly-monthly. Pressure cooker environment where the customers are sensing aggression not value or partnership.
The sales teams are being treated as no-talent children and pushed in the wrong direction, ultimately leading them to the door. The lack of experience and common sense approach will leave the managers spending most of their time filling positions with rookies like their competition.

Advice to Senior ManagementRevert back to the days where you were judged by your year end results not daily, weekly and monthly! Too much time is being diverted on "to do" lists by managers so they have something "to do" resulting in poor performance across the board.

A place to park, but not to be challenged.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSome good, talented people, appropriate focus on financial and fiscal responsibility. Company is growing and has excellent CFO and financial leadership. Leadership is passionate about staying in Maine and continuing to employ people in Maine. CEO places a high value on associates, and communicates regularly to them.

ConsCompany is run like a small owner-operated business, whims of executives become strategic initiatives, distracting from real opportunities. Sedentary culture, lifers running most departments and teams. Because of this, it is a very political place with favoritism rampant. Benefits are below average, pay is 20-30% below market.

Advice to Senior ManagementPick 1-2 initiatives and focus. Stop pretending to innovate and just do some things well.
