I have been working at WS Packaging Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with for the most part.

    Cons

Managed from the top down, they are not willing to listen to employees. Meager on the compensation and very stingy on training opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in certifications, training and employee knowledge enrichment.

    Pros

Many facilities allows for a great deal of Sales opportunities to the customers.
Good support system within & between the different Plants.

    Cons

When Equity group took over the culture changed. New procedures prevailed and Customer Service went out the window.
Everything became "Charts & Graphics" Lean means more than Clients.
Common Sense is a thing of the past.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read what "Lean Machine" wrote. Dead-on !!
You focus on the Offense (Internal) and have NO Defense (Competition).
Consider the Big Picture to become effective.
Listen to your Sales force why jobs are lost.

I worked at WS Packaging Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The infusion in recent years of many people from outside the print industry brought fresh new approaches and deep expertise in kaizen.

    Cons

Emphasis on productivity and daily management metrics is so extreme that common sense is sometimes forgotten. A C-level leader was quoted as saying: "We don't need good people, we just need good process".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leaving people out of the equation is a mistake - you need both good people and good process.

I worked at WS Packaging Group

    Pros

    Family atmosphere
    Cleanliness
Communication with all levels of production
    Friendliness of some staff members
    You are kept extremely busy
    Opportunity for overtime

    Cons

    Safety, Safety, Safety
Standing on your feet all day, only 15 minute lunch break
    Unorganized communication between different departments
    Corporate downsides

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to find a way to boost morale. Everybody hated their job because they were treated like slaves. Need to communicate better with employees.

I have been working at WS Packaging Group

    Pros

A small company feel with many of the benefits of a larger company. Very flexible with work/life balance. If you work hard it does get noticed.

    Cons

Each facility has its unique culture (to be expected) which is good and bad. Some growing pains from acquisitions and bringing systems together/communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some decisions at the upper level are made without consideration to the seasonality of some facilities. The overall drive for improvement is positive.
