    Pros

The best thing about WSP is the people. Passionate, talented, driven engineers who are quite literally transforming the built and natural environment. The company pursues and works on very interesting project around the world.

    Cons

Employee retention is quite poor. Incentives are not commensurate with the amount of work required. On the marketing side, work is monotonous with very little variety.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to retain talented, mid-level engineers. If they leave, they take years of experience with them. And they usually take that experience to direct competitors.

    Pros

WSP is a large, fast-growing company, which means:
    * exposure to a lot of projects/situations you wouldn't otherwise see, for engineering and admin staff.
*engineering staff benefit from pretty great job security, even with all of the mergers and acquisitions. Admin staff not so much, since these services have overlap/are redundant when acquiring other companies that already have IT, Accounting, HR, etc. departments.
*You will likely grow here at a much faster rate than at a smaller company, as there are so many more challenges here that are unique to large companies, and more opportunities to learn.

In general, your coworkers here are wonderful.

    Cons

Communication and management are the main issues here. Upper management is out of touch with regular staff. They have a trickle-down policy of communications, but because the quality of middle management (office heads, department heads, and managers) varies so much, many times communications do not make it all the way down to regular staff, or the message gets warped based on interpretations or personal feelings. The regular staff are the ones left suffering from misinformation or a lack of information altogether.

The company is too focused on growing huge, fast. They rush decisions and changes that are based on pleasing shareholders and producing savings. Regular staff have no choice but to cope with the constant changes in policies/benefits.

Employees are overworked. OT is pretty much expected from you. Teams are too small so the capable people that are actually here have to work harder to compensate.

    Advice to Management

Your managers don't manage. They need training, otherwise they are nothing more than overpaid regular staff.

Gauge employee performance and remove those who just aren't cutting it. Lackluster employees are a drain on what could be used elsewhere, not to mention a discouragement to those who are working hard.

Stop being cheap and relying on employees to create their own workarounds; invest in the right resources/tools/systems that will do a better, more automated job for redundant tasks. You would save hundreds of hours of unnecessary manual work, save money in the long run, and employees would be able to focus on more important things.

    Cons

Company is expanding, buying other companies, merging, leaving current employees in uncertain status. Goals and growth plan seem ill defined.

    Advice to Management

Better define company's goals to motivate employees.
