    Eh.

    Salesperson (Current Employee)
    Covington, GA

ProsGood job for young adults or teens to earn extra cash.

ConsPay periods are set up in a way that it's hard to make a decent amount of money per pay period. I wouldn't advice anyone over the age of 21 to work here.

ProsDecent salary and bonuses, especially when you manage your numbers well. Three weeks vacation after five years, 401(k) match available.

ConsWork-life balancing is decidedly against your favor. Management support, both above and below is limited. Eight day work week--six on, two off--becomes exhausting.

An under paid, fast pased, truck stop experience.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI like working there cuz the customer turn over was so fast, I actually made money when people left.

ConsYou have to be able to multi task, wash ur own dishes along with other salesperson duties. And only get paid peanuts

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your staff better, your store will blossom.

    Terrible company!

    Unit Manager (Current Employee)
    Oklahoma City, OK

ProsNothing. The entire system is a scam (very similar to a pyramid scheme) I worked for Waffle House for two and a half years directly out of college. To me, 40k was a lot of money so I took the job (it was forced down my throat by a recruiter (Michael kitella) because that's how the HR dept makes their salary... Number of new hires in x amount of time) HR people at Waffle House are on the "bonus system" just like unit managers (if you don't perform you don't get paid). Btw field hr people for the company can expect to make ~ 37$ yearly. Pathetic salary. Similar to a unit manger though. I hate Waffle House because they pay next to nothing and expect results, yet provide absolutely no resources to achieve expected 29.9% food cost. It's a good job to learn the restaurant industry from the bottom up. That's about it though. If you stay longer than 6 months you are a fool...

(I was a fool) because they will lead you on and make you think that 'district manager' is just around the corner (that's a steady $70k a year). Sounds great to a recent college grad! Except what they don't tell you is you don't want the job because (remember the resources from before ? 0) the company provides no resources and expects you to run 3, 24 hour stores all by yourself. No thanks. Not for 70k...

I quit Waffle House and worked as a GM for a local quick service restaurant for a few years... Stress=not bad, resources= yeah, had support to give raises and spend money where money needed to be spent, salary= ~$87,000

Lesson Learned: don't work for Waffle House because the company doesn't care about about you and won't invest money to keep you...

ConsEverything is bad about this company. See above.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend an extra .04% on employee (grill op) salaries and some of them might just stick around. It's not always the UM's fault for bad retention... retention stinks but you like to make it seem it's the UM's fault... I bought into that theory for a while (because I was trained to do so) but it's really the terrible upper management and the unrealistic expectations of a 29.9 fc when the company provides absolutely NO VIABLE RESOURCES!

    Not family oriented

    Unit Manager (Current Employee)
    Marietta, GA

ProsThe compensation can be good if your store is in increase from last year. Get valuable management experience that will prepare for anything else you decide to do after. Easy to go from trainee to manager. Pretty easy/simple protocol to run your store. Should have hands on managers since their pay is based off your performance. Perfect job for someone with no commitments. Get 3 well deserved vacations a year.

ConsTakes away alot of your time from family or whatever else you do outside of work. Always on call 24/7. The 6 & 2 off day rotation can change on circumstances. After working 50-60hr weeks, 1 day off isn't enough. Under certain circumstances you can lose your 2 days off. Div mgrs are known to work on their days off. Mgmt sometimes pressures you to manipulate numbers to meet bonus minimums. You can't survive on the base pay. The bonus pay system pressures you to do somethings you may not want to do, i.e. hire unreliable lazy people to meet the people quota. You will encounter people & situations from all walks of life, alcoholics, abuse victims, drug fiends, cheaters, homeless, thieves; & these are the employees I'm talking about. Some managers will screw you over (steal and cheat) on purpose to make themselves look better, same goes for manager trainees. They have nothing to lose because they're floating from store to store. The standard for WH & its employees are low.

Advice to Senior ManagementHealth insurance can be better. Stand behind any threats you make to associates. Raise the standards of everyone involved with the company.

Decent money, no time for family

    Server (Current Employee)
    Valdosta, GA

ProsWaffle house stores pays in cash every Sunday and if you're a server, you get tips every time you work and you don't have to tip out like most restaurants

ConsRude people, non tippers, and I don't get to see my family as often as I would like and there are no vacations

    Lots of work, little pay.

    Unit Manager (Current Employee)
    Akron, OH

ProsFree food! Delicious wonderful food! Also nice meeting the regulars.

ConsMANY hours, going there multiple times a day to change the register. Little pay. NO HEALTH INSURANCE! No real office. Cooking constantly.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer health insurance! Maybe they do now, but that was the reason I left.

    Impersonal

    Server (Former Employee)
    Morrow, GA

ProsGreat stock and profit sharing program. If you love to eat Waffle House they have a good meal program for employees. Training is minimum wage but then you go down to servers pay after training.

ConsThis is not a job for a person with small children. I had to work all holidays and barely got to spend time with my kids. I also worked overnight so I slept the majority of the day. October through January is black time. You cannot take of and if you do not show up you are automatically fired. There is no chance for growth. Unless you have no small children, I would not recommend this company because they do not understand or have any empathy for people and their families.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake time to get to know your employees instead of worrying about what was sales for the day all the time. Show a little compassion for the people that work for you and make pennies on the dollar.

No personal life Ever! Kiss your kids goodbye

    Unit Manager (Former Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsRoom for advancement. Also it will teach you a lot about running a business

ConsNeed to allow managers to have a personal life. When you become a unit manager you have a decent salary depending on your sales in your unit but after you look at the amount of hours you work. You hourly rate ends up being maybe $10 an hour and this happen pretty much every week. Forget weekends and holidays with friends and family. Once you agree to Waffle house they own you and they will get their monies worth. Just beware if you join this company. Oh yea kiss your kids goodbye hopefully you will see them before they graduate high school.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your managers time with their family, Every Friday and Saturday night that's insane
