I worked at Waffle House part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

customers are friendly, its a job and they hire just about anyone, employees learn to lean on each other or you will get bullied out of there, good chance on advancing to manager or so if you learn the vindictive ways

    Cons

my list would never stop about the two WH I worked for, the wife was a slave driver and her husband (from another country where women are dirt) was a sexist pig. Corporate says to operate one way and the owners do it their own way until corporate comes around for the day. and corporate does not act upon sexual harassment they brush it under the rug for others to suffer at the same WH from the same offender. they will not offer full time as in 40 weekly they will do everything in their power not to pay you overtime but to work you everyday possible even if its for 4 hours 7 days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

look into the complaints deeper. fellow employees fear loosing their job if they open their mouth about what really goes on in the restaurant that is not right. no one should fear loosing a job for asking and deserving equality and fairness at a place of employment.

I have been working at Waffle House full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good 20 year stock... You don't have to be the smartest or the hardest working. You control an operation of approx 25 to 40 ppl depending on your unit's daily sales income..

    Cons

You don't have to be the smartest or hardest working (questionable leaders in leadership roles). Systems are out dated, really bad organizational business behaviors. They need diversity clinics. Days off schedule is not ever in your favor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leaders we have in leadership roles are bad leaderships. The know the business but do not know how to lead. We lose more good managers then keeping them because the leaders we have do not trust lower managements judgements.

I have been working at Waffle House full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Co-Unit Managers are Great to be around when you see them

    Cons

Too many politics to move up the ladder here. Over, over, over, and over-worked.
Need to hire more professional staff in restaurant arena and stop re-hiring former troubled staff.
Unit Management Retention rate is low.
Unit Managers have no true assistant managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top Executives, Division and District Managers need to do some research find out which companies are succesful in creating a true family-like, respectable, and exiciting company with much integrity amongst ALL of their management team. This type of company is defnitely out there. However, Waffle House does not seem like it has made it to this list yet.

I have been working at Waffle House full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Stock options, great health insurance.
Free food. Fast pace. Constantly changing dynamics. Brought in by ADP, no support once through WU.

    Cons

Absolutely zero support upline. And if you and your boss happen to have a tiff, he can present a refused to sign shortage upline and you lose pay. District uses his stores as a meat market, nothing done about it, even though you follow reporting procedures. Also, comes out of your pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do your job. Support all members of management, not just the ones you drink with.

    I worked at Waffle House

    Pros

I like working there cuz the customer turn over was so fast, I actually made money when people left.

    Cons

You have to be able to multi task, wash ur own dishes along with other salesperson duties. And only get paid peanuts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your staff better, your store will blossom.

I have been working at Waffle House full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good job for young adults or teens to earn extra cash.

    Cons

Pay periods are set up in a way that it's hard to make a decent amount of money per pay period. I wouldn't advice anyone over the age of 21 to work here.

I worked at Waffle House full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Decent salary and bonuses, especially when you manage your numbers well. Three weeks vacation after five years, 401(k) match available.

    Cons

Work-life balancing is decidedly against your favor. Management support, both above and below is limited. Eight day work week--six on, two off--becomes exhausting.

I have been working at Waffle House full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nothing. The entire system is a scam (very similar to a pyramid scheme) I worked for Waffle House for two and a half years directly out of college. To me, 40k was a lot of money so I took the job (it was forced down my throat by a recruiter (Michael kitella) because that's how the HR dept makes their salary... Number of new hires in x amount of time) HR people at Waffle House are on the "bonus system" just like unit managers (if you don't perform you don't get paid). Btw field hr people for the company can expect to make ~ 37$ yearly. Pathetic salary. Similar to a unit manger though. I hate Waffle House because they pay next to nothing and expect results, yet provide absolutely no resources to achieve expected 29.9% food cost. It's a good job to learn the restaurant industry from the bottom up. That's about it though. If you stay longer than 6 months you are a fool...

(I was a fool) because they will lead you on and make you think that 'district manager' is just around the corner (that's a steady $70k a year). Sounds great to a recent college grad! Except what they don't tell you is you don't want the job because (remember the resources from before ? 0) the company provides no resources and expects you to run 3, 24 hour stores all by yourself. No thanks. Not for 70k...

I quit Waffle House and worked as a GM for a local quick service restaurant for a few years... Stress=not bad, resources= yeah, had support to give raises and spend money where money needed to be spent, salary= ~$87,000

Lesson Learned: don't work for Waffle House because the company doesn't care about about you and won't invest money to keep you...

    Cons

Everything is bad about this company. See above.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend an extra .04% on employee (grill op) salaries and some of them might just stick around. It's not always the UM's fault for bad retention... retention stinks but you like to make it seem it's the UM's fault... I bought into that theory for a while (because I was trained to do so) but it's really the terrible upper management and the unrealistic expectations of a 29.9 fc when the company provides absolutely NO VIABLE RESOURCES!
