I have been working at WalMart Canada for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to start a managers career. They will give you a chance to move up.

    Cons

The job is a lifestyle, no real balance of work life, lots of divorces for long term employees do to job hours. Not for lone wolfs, socialization is key to move up in the company, not how hard you work. If management you are not Human, and can not have feelings all activities are black and white no shades of gray.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to retain good workers, there is to high of a turnover 46% at most locations, so you are ending up with just body's. Properly fill department , the business will prosper for it.

I worked at WalMart Canada part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Very friendly and almost family like atmosphere among employees at my old store
    2. The 10% discount was a nice little perk
    3. Expectations weren't sky high, as long as you showed up to work and did what was asked of you
    4. You will get the opportunity to work all across the store in a wide variety of departments. For someone like myself who could get bored of doing the same thing over and over again, I didn't mind this.

    Cons

    1. Even within the same store, one Assistant Manager would have vastly different expectations compared to another
    2. Good luck getting more than 12 hours a week during non-peak times, and good luck trying to get much in terms of flexibility with when you get those 12 hours. If you are a full time student and need more flexibility when it comes to your hours, this isn't the job for you (though this could vary by store to store)
    3. You may end up covering up to 4 or 5 departments at once within the store due to there not being enough hours budgeted at your store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say the biggest thing I would suggest, specifically to upper management, would be to ensure that you have the necessary coverage around the store at all times. The other cons I mentioned may be different at each individual store, but floor coverage is something I am sure is a universal issue.

I worked at WalMart Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good co-workers, not terribly demanding work

    Cons

Customers can be horrible and management can leave some important things to the last minute, which is obviously very annoying.

I worked at WalMart Canada full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good rewards for leaders and willingness to work hard. Good promotion propects if willing to go extra mile

    Cons

Promotion propects are dependent on leadership within store. The higher you get the less work life balance exists.Very irregular hours with demanding work loads.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be blinded by limited opions, ask other peers and associate prior to promoting associates. Get a true picture of what is happening. Hold more out of store focus meeting to hear unbais opions.

I have been working at WalMart Canada

    Pros

Walmart provides flexible hours and good entry level retail training. This is a good company for starting your career, especially for people who are only available part time.

    Cons

Unfortunately there are few promotion opportunities, little full time work, and limited hours during slow times.

I have been working at WalMart Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It is like a big Family. The pay in comparison to other retail chains like Walmart is great. I would not be able to go to a competitor and get better pay. I love the overtime at inventory. I love the endless opportunities within the company. You can move up quickly if you are the right person with the drive to do so. We get a yearly profit sharing Bonus. You get 10% off merchandise which is awesome considering how cheap things are already. We have fun days like pot lucks, fundraisers, etc...

    Cons

Customers can be hard to deal with sometimes. It takes an extremely patient person to cope sometimes. As much as I won't have a job without them customers sometimes forget we are people too and treat you horribly.
Sometime the miscommunication amongst managers gets to you.No benfits for part time. Yearly raises are low. It is retail and Walmart is huge. Of course there will be some cons but overall it is a great place to work. If you don't love to learn new things and be willing to step outside your comfort zone retail is not for you. Oh and you must be willing to go on Till!! If you won't help on the till's up front you shouldn't apply at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not being a cashier you might think it weird I say this but I think Cashiers should get another wage increase. They already make a little more than floor associates but I think it needs to increase more. They have the most important job in the store and I think the company should realize that. Being a casier is a lot more difficult and straining than it looks. Try standing in one spot for 4 hrs on end or more without a break.
