Great place to learn the emergency exit strategy

    Store Manager (Current Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsWhen you find a place that offers better pay on performance, longevity benefits, and work life balance: R-U-N.

ConsPolitics are your way up or out. Be the mayor and you will do fine.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice what you preach.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Steady but Declining

    Service Clerk (Former Employee)
    Columbus, MS

ProsDecent Job security and your job expectations are fairly straight forth and very pleasant company to work for. I enjoyed my stay for the most part.

ConsThere is not much room for personal growth and the company doesn't seem to be much reward for longevity. They also were under staffed.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice is to reward longevity employees more than acting as if their resignation helps the company.

    Acceptable short-term occupation

    SrCPhT (Current Employee)
    Gainesville, FL

ProsPay for little to no educational background

ConsCompany ethics are going down hill quickly. Be prepared to have your hours cut back drastically during slower months (Summer usually). Be prepared to work major holidays all day and not have time for family.

In the past, it was an outstanding place to work.

    Store Manager (Former Employee)

ProsPay is acceptable. Work morning shift/daytime mostly. Will remain at one location for an extended period of time.

ConsYou will work a ridiculous amount of hours if you want your store to perform at an acceptable level. No one will appreciate your efforts. When you change stores, you will take over a store that is underperforming.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlace a higher importance on employees, not shareholder value. Focus more on increasing sales/profits, not decreasing expenses.

    Great company until 2009

    Manager (Former Employee)

ProsThey used to promote from within and encouraged employees to stay with the company long term. They always offered stock purchase programs to employees.

ConsIn 2009 they began laying off employees who had been with the company the longest. They did not offer any pay cuts or the possibility of remaining with a downgraded position. They destroyed the office morale of all the remaining employees.

    Average employer

    Human Resources (Current Employee)

ProsLongevity, consistency, good stock purchase plan and profit sharing. Employee purchase programs

ConsUnclear expectations in ever changing environment. Poor communication from leadership top down. Low wages, weak compensation structure b

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a direct way to communication with employees. Stop relying on management to relay messages.

    Walgreens

    ASMt (Current Employee)

ProsUnlike other pharmacy retailers they provide you with the hours you need to manage a store. The job is easy if you like to work hard.

ConsMust have a flexible schedule. Most store managers take advantage of assistants and shift supervisors. They will not work weekends or holidays and barely leave the office. It's seems difficult to move up from assistant to manager. I have met multiple exa's who have been in the same position for 8+ years.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork more side by side with your employees.

    Good People, Strong arm Corporate

    Certified Pharmacy Technician (Former Employee)
    Mountain View, CA

ProsDepending on the site, other employees are very friendly and helpful like at my site.

ConsPay has been going down, corporate culture is strong when dealing with goals and service. Competing with other retail stores when Walgreens is supposedly pharmacy centered makes it kind of an odd store.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees are worth more than what they're getting.
