    diversity of people
    given more hours than needed

    Cons

    last minute call ins
    "team work" really isnt allowed

    Advice to Management

Let the workers that give good morale to coworkers pass on some jokes so there arent too many miserable people having the idea to commit suicide in the workplace or hate their lives because of the job they have

    Pros

Happy smiles. Team meetings. Customers provide variety. Some managers are good.

    Cons

Long-term unending clannish vested. Quite good at initial welcome to newbie. Ultimately a bit stuck in old ways at store level unless you follow crowd.

    Advice to Management

Be more positive in a real, no strings attached way. Be Leary of midlevels who demote themselves from responsibility and remain on staff. Remember to appreciate honesty, even if you are not used to it.

    Pros

I work at the Walmart Neighborhood Market which is strictly groceries. The store is located near the beach and the customers are great. People in Huntington Beach are down to earth and easy to serve. I've brought back the "customer service" to customer service as I'm older than some of the other associates.

    Cons

Cashier should get paid more, especially with the new laws regarding bags in Huntington Beach. It makes 'bagging' groceries more of a challenge and Walmart doesn't have box boys.

    Advice to Management

To acknowledge the hard work we do as cashiers, with the new bag law that's been enforced.
And, to raise the pay a bit more.

    Pros

Accosiates I worked alongside were pretty cool if not too influenced by upper management

    Cons

Management and their delegations to their employees. Constant favoritism to only those who agree with their bad management. Drone-like

    Advice to Management

    Get a new Store manager

    Pros

Walmart is a highly diversified workplace. The structure of the company is such that you will experience a wide variety of supervisors and managers. At this Walmart there were many opportunities offered to move around. There were lateral positions, upwardly mobile positions, and positions of lesser responsibility, all available to me as an employee. I enjoyed my experience there and stayed with this store for about 16 months. Requesting time off was never a problem as long as I provided ample notice. FYI... no time off in retail from Thanksgiving to New Years so I never asked during this period. The management pushed us hard but we always maxed our bonus. I really enjoyed that!

    Cons

There were several challenges, but the biggest one is that it is impossible to earn a "living" wage working for Walmart as long as you remain an hourly employee. At least this is true if you live in Orange County, CA. I would have liked to move into a salaried position, it didn't happen, so I moved on to another company that would recognize my talents and abilities.

    Advice to Management

In a company as large as this, in a store as large as this, it is pretty difficult to stand out from the crowd. We had some awesome Assistant Managers that tried to promote the hourly employees. Listen to them, they want the store to succeed and they want their bonus too. They wouldn't advocate for someone if they didn't feel they were capable. Additionally, the Assistant Managers are the ones that work with the hourly employees so they do know a bit about them, their capabilities, and where they could best be used in this company.

    Pros

My fellow associates were very friendly, and my managers were very supportive. The benefits were decent, and the job itself was very easy.

    Cons

The cons were mainly customers and the managers who seemed "out to get you" if they didn't like you they could ruin your career, and it's the same case with customers.
