I have been working at Walmart full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of room for advancement. Good feedback on job performance. Flexible schedule as long as your willing to be flexible as well

    Cons

Large company means that small issues you may have get lost in the shuffle so don't expect a lot of hands on problem solving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I really like most of management where I work an the only advice I would give to them is. That they need to work better together. Most of the time there's 3 or 4 managers that are nowhere near the same page and have different goals for the same associates

    Pros

Ability to transfer from store to store (I went from SC to OK to CO), great scholarship and volunteer benefits

    Cons

Depending on the area, management can constantly be changing, sometimes promotions feel like set ups for failure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back up your employees, don't expect them to drop everything they have planned to come in and cover a shift, be sincere and show concern but at the same time know how to have a little fun

    Hourly Associate

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

Walmart is a company that will take good care of you if you put in initiative and take pride in what you do. There is so much room to grow inside the store and abroad. Walmart promotes its people to higher positions in as little as 6 months to people who deserve it. Again, initiative and pride.

    Cons

For hourly associates (non-salary), we face hour cuts to meet business need. The cuts don't last very long, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. As with any retailer, the Holiday Season is always a challenge due to high customer volume and demand. Your time is precious and you spend a lot of it at work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people. Talk to your people. Guide your people. They are on the Front Lines for you.

I worked at Walmart part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

As a cashier, they start you at a few dollars above minimum and I got a 10 cent raise after six months. They are extremely flexible with hours and scheduling. Great high school and college job.

    Cons

Just be very specific about your availability. As long as you're specific, you get what you want.
