I worked at Walmart full-time for less than a year

    Pros

If you showed an interest in learning and desire to stay busy, Management treated me very well; received several pay raises as well as offering me full time employment. Also considered me for a manager's position.

    Cons

On your feet all day and some days were very slow. Lot of my coworkers were not interested in helping out in other departments but my philosophy is it makes the day go by faster and you are constantly learning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management got me involved in other departments; unloading trucks, doing inventory, stocking shelves and besides I was interested and wanted to learn. Would work with management every day to see what extra jobs they needed me to do.

    Amazingly nimble

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

For such a massive company, Walmart does an amazing job of staying in lock step with its core consumer. Examples include Pick up Today and the return of layaway.

    Cons

While the concepts are clean, implementation is a bear. So many moving parts. Ends up placing a heavy burden on the operators.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes you have to step back to move forward. Some platforms are just not able to support new business processes.

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

Full time makes it easier to keep a roof over your head

    Cons

Too much work for one person ... Manage your personnel assets some folks standing around with their thumb up their butts and others working their butts off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many chiefs not enough Indians

I have been working at Walmart part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

time-off policies, discount, discounts for vision, hair salon, pharmacy, and Murphy's gas station...friendly associates, easy to talk to management, absent policy, promotions

    Cons

work-life balance, understaffed, usually have to handle more than one task throughout the day

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

schedule enough people for each department to be taken care of...I have found that it stresses both the customer and associates when each department is understaffed

I have been working at Walmart

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits are better than my current local government job, much better heath care, dental and even 401k beats my pension.

    Cons

Revolving door of management makes routine and expectations vary year to year and high turn over of employees can hurt store moral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create consistency in expectations and stop rotating managerial shifts (daytime/nighttime) and stop transferring managers from store to store.

I worked at Walmart part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My absolute favorite part of Walmart is the coworkers. I've never worked with a better group of people. Lunches were a blast because there was always someone fun to sit with. I'm somewhere else and I miss my Walmart folks beyond belief.

My Walmart was fantastic and understanding about my school schedule.

Good hours. I never had to worry I wasn't getting enough.

    Cons

I got good hours, yeah, but at the expense of more associates. I often felt overworked and frustrated with that.

Loopy policies- their policies are all over the place. One day it's this and the next it's that and the next week it's back to the original policy.

Lack of staff meant I did so many things across the store, which wouldn't be a problem except my managers thought I could spend from 4PM-9PM and STILL get everything else done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let assistant managers and ZSs have more flexibility! They know what goes on in each department, not the co and store managers that have so much other stuff going on.

Hire more associates per store. For real.

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

The supportive environment and friendly people make this a great place to work. Fantastic benefits and work/life balance

    Cons

Depending on what your priorities are in a location, there isn't much in terms of area culture/history. Lots of outdoor activities.

I have been working at Walmart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The best reason to work at Walmart is because it is easy to get hired. If you work hard the management will like you.

    Cons

They do not like to give raises. You get different instructions from each of your many bosses. Most of the employees are trying to do the least amount of work possible, leaving the majority of the work to the minority of people who have a work ethic. Hard workers don't work here for long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire people who don't work hard and give the hard workers more hours.
