I worked at Walmart full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Tons of positions! Lot of room to grow. Great pay for beginner and experience people. Good benefits. You get recognitions for things done well.

    Cons

Attendance policy doesn't make sense, if you actually have doctors notes. They don't care. You have to know your management well to get promoted and notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They have no choice but to follow corporate policies, but they need to revise the attendance policy, and the way they promote and choose their management.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay, Benefits, Safety Culture, and community outreach.

    Cons

To much red tape, not enough engagement with associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the associates know the risks, hazards, and short cuts better than middle management. Engage them and allow change.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The management team is, for the most part, very wonderful. They do their best to get everything in order and handle situations as best they can, and it really shows. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement or to simply make Walmart you career, as well - moving up in your own department or transferring to another is easy and common.

    Cons

Hours will inevitably get cut and your paychecks will go down. Starting salaries are small, which is a huge turn-off to most people. Hours also get long, and before you know it you're working 50 hours a week for $&.90 an hour. It feels underappreciated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More praise to employees. Tell them when they're doing things wrong, but make sure you also mention when they're being done right. Many management members fail to use this tactic and wonder why everyone is miserable.

I worked at Walmart full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Pay started quickly, I got to see all of the new technology coming out and what the hottest items being sold. During the holidays there where alot of hours, including overtime. There where alot of brakes given and I believe I started at 8.15/an hr

    Cons

there was no on the job training besides the computer training. alot of the time I was left on my own, which wasn't so bad, but whenever I needed help the manager took all day to get to my register.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't leave new people so unattended at the cash register. How some sort of training system, or leave a continuity book to solve problems so new people can figure out the issue before management has to.
