    Pros

I have been with walmart for a few months now, and im loving it there. I work in overnight frozen/dairy, and though it may not pay well, its better pay than my last job. Cant really complain much.
Friendly management, hard working employees, and stocks are mostly up.

    Cons

Some dont follow the book when it comes to the rules and safty, inventory is a nightmare, and its almost impossible to move up unless you work so hard your body hits the floor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give career opportunities not only to the overly worked, but to those that actually CARE for the company, its future, and its operations.

    Pros

After sitting behind a desk for nearly 20 years, it was very refreshing to do a physical job. There is a lot of walking involved. Some lifting, but lots of movement. I have learned a lot about people, sales and inventory control. It is not as simple as putting products out on the shelves for purchasing customers. Oveall, I enjoy the experience of working at Walmart.

    Cons

There are days that I wish I had more hours in the day to complete the work needed to do a complete, good job. Sometimes you are rushed and the perfect job, may only be a 90% job. And with any other job, I wish the pay were better. I also wish the training were better. There has been a lot of self-training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give people enough time to do the computer based training that you require. It is next to impossible to complete your normal daily tasks, and then try and complete the CBL's during the same task. Also, make sure that the staff has all the tools to complete the task -- inventory labels, pricing labels, printers, Telxon's, , pallet jacks, etc.

    Pros

Get to work with great people. Has a ton of different areas you can work in or promote to. As long as you do your job you have job security. Salaried pay is good and the possibility of a bonus is great as long as your store does good.

    Cons

As a salaried manager you end up working a lot. Sometimes 50-60 hours a week. Every store and market seems to have their own set if rules. I loved working for the company in Montana. But when I moved to Texas. I started to hate my job . They seemed stuck in the past and had a "at a boy" system. So if you where from outside the area you where never going to promote.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I really didn't like it when Walmart got rid of the 90 evaluation raise and also the work experience increases when hiring. It makes it really hard to get talented /good workers. Also work experience for internal management promotions . I had to step down after 8 years as an salaried manager for personal reasons and was supported by the market team and store manager. I understood I would lose some money going down to hourly. But I dealt with it. The problem I had was when I moved back to my old position and had to restart at the bottom of the pay grade because I was internal . Even though I had 10 years of Walmart management experience. I was making less then external hires from gas station or a mall store. These are things that make long term associates not feel like they matter or that they have value.

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities in this company. I was fortunate enough that I got to travel around the country and see many different cities. Now I stay in one place and it's very different. It all depends on what you want.

    Cons

Very demanding. Upper management seems to think that we can do more with less, but let's be honest, is that really the case?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's worry a little less about profits and take care care of the associate. They'll take care of the business for you.

    Pros

Still a good company to work for has good benefits, pay is ok if starting out. Plenty of opportunities to advance with the company.

    Cons

Some challenges would be working every holiday, minimum pay, and customers can be a headache.

    Pros

For all the things I have heard about Walmart, I was actually expecting the worst when taking a job here. In fact, the worst has been just that, all the complaining I have heard about Walmart treating their employees. I will not agree or disagree with any of that.

I will say that I have had an ok time working here, and while the pay may not be that great, this job is everything I need at the moment and I hope to continue working here for an extended period of time.

My store isn't the most well run store, but it is a location close to home, and they usually give me the days off I need. My paycheck deposits without any issues every two weeks, and I get the breaks and lunches I am supposed to, time off when requested is also usually approved without issue, and I am not expected to do any work off the clock, and it is strongly discouraged. I can go to work, work, and go home and forget about the job when I am not there. This is rare in the 21st century, which is an age we are expected to do much more than that.

    Cons

There are no benefits for me being part time, and it takes working 3 months to get a discount which is useless if you don't really shop there.

The customers are more rude and foul mouthed than other customers in other retail stores, I call them 'WalMartians.

Store management is rarely seen on the floor, they like to spend their day in meetings and in their offices. This works as they leave you alone, but if you need them for something, good luck finding one. This also results in poor communication between management and hourly employees. I can't imagine what it is like to be a supervisor, nor would I want the position if offered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time on the floor acknowledging the people that help you earn your money and treat them better, this goes not just to the store level but also to corporate. Please improve your reputation, not sink it even further. Maybe paying your workers a couple of dollars more an hour and giving full time opportunities might also help.

    Pros

Flexibility with both schedule and job positions.

    Cons

minimal raises, high turnover positions (i.e always working with new hires who don't know what to do.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management seems to work separately in the interest of their own departments instead of cohesively as a team.
