    Pros

Been here for 2 years, started in the frozen/dairy department and now work as a certified optician. Moving up, flexible hours, good pay is great for a part time job while I work toward my college degrees to move up even further at Wal-Mart.

    Cons

Sometimes it gets very busy, but if you can manage your time and multi-task you will thrive.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like a team, show them you are willing to work with and listen to them, not dictate, lead by example.

    Pros

They work around your schedule, listen to your problems, they train you really well.

    Cons

BIG TIME FAVORITISM, They cut hours big time when they hire new associates, if you do open door sometimes they will slip your name, like high school everyone gossips..

    Advice to Management

Help the associates, stop playing favorites, stop letting names slips when doing open door, own up to mistakes being made.

    Pros

Yearly raises (by cents, but every penny counts), flexible hours, when managers are good, they're great, 401K and stock is good.

    Cons

When managers are bad, they are disastrous! Bad side to store-wide raises are if you just get your annual raise a month or so before the store one, you have the possibility of making less than someone who started later than you that has their yearly review due AFTER the store raise. May seem petty, but eh.

    Advice to Management

Don't take the people below you for granted. If they don't do their job, you have to do it. Remember that.

    Pros

The work keeps you very busy and the day goes by quick.

    Cons

Management has unrealistic expectations at times. Walmart seems to be understaffed all the time.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Sometimes we have good input if you would just open your ears.

    Pros

Walmart is a great work place as a starter job and has some doors that can open for a future!

    Cons

The work environment might not be the best! Some people are hard to work with and may make people quit because of it!

    Advice to Management

Make your employees feel appreciated because if you don't then you may lose some very good quality workers in the end!

    Pros

Good benefits, decent pay and rewarding work.

    Cons

Extreme working hours, unresponsive upper management, lack of integrity as a culture. Drive to treat associates like robots, not humans.

    Advice to Management

Stick to the integrity guidelines and treat your employees better. Give salaried management a better work/life balance by actually following company protocol.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As long as you are organized and do the work, it is really easy. You can receive discounts, as well as help promote a positive atmosphere for the customers.

    Cons

You cannot take vacations on Holidays. Paid vacation are at the companies discretion and not at your own. They are inflexible with schedule demands, as well.
