    Pros

I've been working here for two years, and like most companies, there are several pros and cons. This company has a clear vision of where it wants to go for the future which is evident by it's growth in volume and price. The company has focused on smaller markets where there is less competition, making it easier to sell the service. There is also a good amount of training for the new reps who are being introduced into the market. Work/life balance has been great.

    Cons

Commission structure is a bit sketchy. I've seen the payouts change several times now since I started working for Waste Connections...none were in the reps' favor. There is still money to be made in the market though. Reps are compensated for gas, but it's a set monthly amount that gets taxed instead of a mileage reimbursement. Those are my main concerns. Most everything else would be considered nitpicking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Changes need to be made to the commission structure that are more favorable to the rep. The company is moving in the right direction. Keep the people out in the field happy and this company will continue to show strong growth in volume.

    Pros

Great company and good work / home life. They treat you like gold if you just do your job.

    Cons

It got pretty boring after a while. I'm a people person tho, so if you are an introvert this is the job for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it up.

    Pros

The company is very community-minded. There really are some fantastic people who work here. Managers can be awesome. However, like any company, your well being determines who your direct manager is. Benefits are okay - not fantastic. Pay is average. In my personal position, I look forward to coming to work every day.

    Cons

The company spends a ton of money on manager parties and outings. Nothing much is spent on employees. Managers can get huge bonuses and pay raises. No merit raises for employees. District manager decides what your raise is and most employees get the same amount regardless of how hard you work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value all employees, not just the young ones you want to groom for management. Also, don't be so management heavy. Give older workers a chance as they have a lot to offer.

    Pros

co-workers are a great group of guys to be around, very helpful and there is a sense of brotherhood.

    Cons

It's cooperation, so over managed, and a lot of hang-ups with budgets and approvals, but all in all, decent wages, benefits are fair, and managers are friendly

    Pros

Friendly people, Good management, great parties.

    Cons

Low pay, very limited retirement benefits for hourly workers, treated like children (e.g., need to bring note from doctor on first day of sick leave, have to clock in on a machine even in offices).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more competitve salaries and improve retirement benefits. Treat employees like professional adults and not children who can't be trusted.
