    Sad day when you love your job and learn your call center is closing

    ProsLove the call center reps - you work hard and put up with some tough customers. Your a great team of people and it's sad to learn we will never be a team again.

    ConsWe were told this week our call center is closing. It shocked and hurt 125 employees in a very small town. We are so busy some of us are working OT everyday, until this week when the closing was released. Now that they've routed our calls to AZ, the phones stopped ringing. If we are going to stay open for another 3 months, how are we going to do our jobs when the phones stopped ringing.

    Advice to Senior ManagementYou shouldn't keep hiring and training when you knew the center was going to close. This wasn't an overnight decision. There are about 30 new hires over the past 90 days who now are out of work again.

    Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    ProsIndustry leader, good benefits, one stop shop, challenging work load. Full range of environmental services made it advantageous when prospecting & helped differentiate service offerings from competitors.

    ConsLong Hours & unrealistic expectations.
    Price leader - enabled competition to consistently undercut WM's pricing. Extreme micro mgmt.
    Constant power struggle between operations & sales departments. Company driven by operations minded mgmt. team w little regard for sales team. HR Dept. practically non existent @ local level.

    Advice to Senior ManagementTreat all employees with respect and improve comp plans.

    Constant change for the sake of change

    ProsMid level managers are great, but they're passing along policies from above that are horrible. Great opportunity to advance quickly through a few positions, with a pretty hard ceiling after a few levels.

    ConsNear impossible attendance policy. Very little training from one position to the next.

    Not the most warm workplace environment

    Waste Management is growing at a fast pace, but forgets to invest in their own people that are helping it grow.

    ProsManagement is helpful and will go to support your decision making as long is it makes logical sense and is in line with company goals. In operations specifically, you are the brain of the company and the everyday workload can be challenging and engaging.

    ConsThe operations department of this company has employees that are some of the most knowledgeable within the company, but there are constant silly errors by the customer service and corporate departments that require fixing by operations or else they will adversely affect the customers and clients. Time off is not good, it requires you be employed at two years in order to receive a full two weeks off of paid vacation. Operations often works long hours and weekends.

    Advice to Senior ManagementRealize that you can't hold workers accountable for errors that other departments are responsible for.

    This is your job this is what you do like it or leave it.

    Operations Specialist and Scale Clerk (Current Employee)

    ProsVery in tune to Global / Environmental issues. Wide open marketplace for development and creativity.
    Has many options in place for growth of business and the individual built at Corporate level. Decent benefit pkg. compared to other industries.

    ConsVery little to no encouragement from management for the individual to pursue anything that might be offered. Not a true team environment. Too much separation of job tasks by title. Corporate level is totally out of touch with field employees and the customers. Products too high priced and customers have no easy access to service for the answers they seek. People rushed to do their expected tasks, The company is always adding tasks cutting hours but not increasing pay in balance. Also the "new dispatch system" is counter productive.

    Advice to Senior ManagementMicro Managing isn't working for you. Knock it off and be more personally involved in understanding what your employees do, who they are, what their desires are and how you can help them be successful. Lead them instead of push them, encourage them to be first line customer service people. Managers don't deal with customers on a personal level like field employees do.. managers should encourage and train employees to be good at doing that.

    Good outlook for company's business initiatives; is forgetting that people are the foundation for strong growth

    Too many initiatives going on with no clarity or specifics being provided to keep employee morale up
    Company and HR's attitude for employee growth needs a overhaul
    Is focused on meeting /making money for shareholders while the employees take a salary hit.

    Advice to Senior ManagementKeep in mind that the company is growing because of the employees contribution and are assets.
    Overworking them and not keeping the salary growth inline with the Company's profit growth isnt fair.

    Great Company for non professionals

    ProsHours M-F; room for advancement if your connected to the right people; paid weekly; most of the staff were cool to work with.

    ConsLow pay in the southern region compared to its northern counterparts. Workload gets slow at times. Vacation time should be average of the weekly hours worked not straight 40 per week.
