    Pros

Decent Pay and good benefits, Lots of flexibility on what you will be doing on a daily basis, and you'll need it, the people I've worked with are good hardworking fun to work with people.

    Cons

"CORPORATE" as all the managers say to you,, have cut us so close to the bone that everyone is doing two and most time three jobs just to stay employed, and middle management makes it clear where the door is, Supervisors are mostly a true blue stab in the back group with each other, and I guess it's because most of them are idiots to the fact that you CAN NOT BE A MANAGER without a four year degree with this company, think about it, you spend 18 or 24 or 26 years with a company and they have a job that you do with your eyes closed but because you don't have a bachelors you don't get the job, don't expect job security, pay freezes based on stock prices? you have to be kidding me, I don't believe we have had a red quarter in at least 28 that I can think of, and thats during the worst economy since the thirties, your instructed to do the job of supervisors who left, either from layoff or disgust, but no money ever comes your way, cost of living is averaging up somewhere near 5 1/2% per year and they think you should be kissing there feet for an annual 2%, and you can forget that hefty bonus program, thats only for the connected not the ones making them that bonus, Christmas bonus, yeah right, safety bonus, yeah right, forget to clock out, take a couple days off without pay, if your looking, try to find a more equitable company.

    Advice to Management

Management is so enamored with themselves and the way they look on wall street they cant see the best people they ever employed are going to work for the COMPITITION, I think all managers should be required to do a 30 day stint in a random position drawn from a pool in there area once every two years, that would take a little of the starch out of there sails, TRY PROMOTING FROM WITHIN!

    Pros

The company offers great benefits and good pay to management with a nice bonus program as well as the opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

while meeting "numbers" for operating goals are important, the bonuses are based on these numbers. the senior management seems to be so focused on meeting their numbers that many shop leaders are trying to hide and manipulate the things that the numbers are based on. Integrity is important to me and I didn't see a whole lot of it there.

    Advice to Management

insure that the priorities are correct. spend money where it is needed. an investment in people is always a good one. you cannot have your cake and eat it too.

    Pros

The benefits were really good and most of my co-workers were excellent. The facilties were very nice also.

    Cons

It does not matter how well you do in your job. My PDS goals were off the charts and I was an Emerald Circle Winner. I was at 150 % of my sales goal for the year and that my friends was not good enough for the Wisconsin/ Minnesota market area. But at the end of the day, that was not enough to save my job as the market area needed to save two million dollars in the 4th quarter. Go figure, lets fire a rep because he is making good money. Hello, if I'm making good money so are you, my deals averaged a 29% ebit overall. Believe me if you can sell trash and recycling at Waste Management, you can sell it anywhere, trust me.

    Advice to Management

You need to get your reps closer to the customer which is what you managers preech all the time. But in order to get that accomplished, you should not sever good reps who know how to do their job effectively. Trim the fat at the market area sales director position where the waste really is. Have the functional managers report directly to either the segment director or the regional manager I.E The midwest or whatever region. Oh and one more thing, Segmentation will not work but I guess I have to have an MBA to figure that out.

    Advice to Management

When hiring managment positions hire from with in the company some one that understand what the jobs consist of, not people that have been managers at grocery stores they have no idea how the company is work.

Employees that work there are good people. Most are willing to help on routes and in the yard. good group of people.

    Cons

The communication from upper management needs to improve. There also needs to be a mentoring program but in place at all levels.

    Pros

The pay is very good, as a residential route manager you have allot of free time to conduct your daily task. the qrtly. bonus program can be very rewarding if you make your numbers.

    Cons

the biggest issue is all managers are expected to work 10 plus hours a day even if there is not enough work to keep you there. They also took away company trucks that we were able to drive home daily, which saved on gas and your car wear and tear.

    Advice to Management

The next year is crucial to the viablility of WM and if they will continue to make a profit or have to resort to Bankruptcy.

    Pros

People are great. Company is doing some very exciting work. Small details were thought through. Great location. Employees get what the vision for the company is and can get behind it.

    Cons

Departments need to talk to each other more. Extremely conservative atmosphere, seemed like general lack of trust. Little to no job security.

    Advice to Management

Departments HAVE to figure out how to work together. Few people feel that they have job security, causing certain individuals to leave by choice. Keep all staff well-informed of management staff changes.
