I have been working at Wausau Paper (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some very bright people in manufacturing leadership roles.

    Cons

This company has no future in Wisconsin. Everything will be shifted to Kentucky in short order. In addition, its stock is in play by activist venture capital groups whose ultimate interest is in selling the company so they can realize the profit they forecasted when they bought the large blocks of stock they did. As soon as this company reaches financial success and gets the attention of their larger competitors, they'll be acquired and all non-production employees will probably lose their positions. Unless you're truly desperate and/or are willing to look for another job in 2 - 3 years, don't bother.

    Advice to Management

Stop giving management employees false hope of a future with Wausau Paper.

  2. Senior Management is clueless, if the shareholders don't continue to apply pressure there could be serious problems.

I have been working at Wausau Paper full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many people there who truly care and work very hard to do the right thing.

    Cons

Management does not listen to employees. Some hourly employees are not allowed to take lunch breaks. Management bases treatment of employees on whether they are liked personally or not.

    Advice to Management

Hopefully Starboard will do their job and replace the entire management group before they run this company completely in the ground.

    Pros

Good pay for the area. Very good people at the site, enjoyable group to work with. Very dedicated hourly workforce. Very knowledgeable work force. A lot of experience at the lower levels of management and within the hourly ranks

    Cons

Very poor communication at the management level. No control at the site. Micro manged from corprate headquaters. Wausau not showing commitment to the future of the otis mill. Have been setting the facility up to fail for the past 5 plus years. Do not treat employees with any respect.

    Advice to Management

Start thinking through important decisions. Get feedback from site management. Focus on improving sales for site

    Pros

Good entry level salaries and bonuses but a 3 percent raise is the best you can expect after that.

    Cons

Ego issues, horrible communication, absence of any product control. More window dressing than substance.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees. Don't preach cost savings to hourly personnel and then spend on stripe executive trips and outings. Remember your employees aren't idiots and know how you act and treat them.
