Former Employee - Lab Tech in Golden, CO

I worked at Weatherford Laboratories as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

-Lab techs and non-management are generally down-to-Earth and easy to work with
-Limited opportunities to learn about the oil industry as a whole
-Management was laid back and do not try to micromanage unnecessarily
-Lots of mobility within the company
    -Good springboard to other companies

    Cons

-Lots of mobility within the company (high turnover)
-Disturbing amount of management has never been to college and that's reflected in their work ethic and mindset
    -Favoritism runs rampant
    -Very below average compensation
-Not a single person outside of management was interested in staying at Weatherford long term
-Worker safety very weakly enforced. For example, certain employees smoked 5' away from barrels of flammable solvents and others even welded next to the barrels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Re-evaluate the lower management.

I worked at Weatherford Laboratories full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good place to get your foot in the door. Nice people to work with. good benefits package.

    Cons

Reorganization happens all the time, unofficially and officially. Salaries and titles are not updated to reflect changes. Inexperienced employees being promoted to mid-level management with not HR or effective management training. Crude environment in some departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

ALL mid-level to executive management should attend mandatory training in regards to employee relationships, employment law, HR practices, and conflict resolution.

I worked at Weatherford Laboratories full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Again, A good place to get your foot in the door for a career in the oilfield.
I would consider returning to work there if i had to only because i have history and experience there.

    Cons

This post covers rock shop and field employees.
    Compensation is not competitive..
    limited respect for field personnel
Some company vehicles are not dependable for long distance. for example one vehicle had more than 300,000 miles and broke down multiple times. The safe transportation of people and the core(cargo) was at jeopardy many times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

respect is very important for employee moral!!!!!

I have been working at Weatherford Laboratories

    Pros

I do like working for the company - the people are great. The familiy feeling you get is hard to beat. We do work hard. When we get time - we play hard too.

    Cons

When you get hired on - ESPECIALLY SALARIED POSITIONS - You are working 24-7. Your phone becomes a leash and you don't have a life away from the job. Asking for time off is - well - almost impossible. You get two weeks a year - why can't you use it? Asking for it is like sitting on pins and needles. Even when you get it - they try to make you stay and work instead. Management otherwise is pretty decent. Not sure the money is competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

These people (most of them) that work for you are pretty die-hard.You already have our loyalty. It would be nice to get some more recognition for what we do and compensated appropriately (monetarily and vacation).
