I have been working at Wegmans Food Markets part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible Scheduling which is good if you are a college student. The scholarship program at wegmans is also very helpful.

    Cons

There are tons of lazy people that work in departments. For the work we do and the customers attitudes a higher pay is needed. The job gets boring because you're constantly doing the same thing over and over again. This job is not for a black young man, they will put a target on your back. They don't care about you working hard all they care about is how much booty you can kiss if you want to move up in the company. The STL's are like robots (Store Team Leaders) They go by the book and are very annoying, Shopping here is great, working here is a different story. You will not get trained to expect to look dumb your first 4 weeks.

    Advice to Management

Stop showing favoritism. Work harder than employees so you can gain their respect. Stop being fake happy.

I worked at Wegmans Food Markets part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Above average pay for monotonous, mind-numbing warehouse labor that takes little to no intelligence to complete - Flexible scheduling and very good work/life balance - Reputable name

    Cons

    - Most team leaders are unfit to lead - Majority of employees lack post-secondary education - Culture and social environment is on par with a high school (see above) - Offensively micromanged

    Advice to Management

I worked here for one summer during college. Mind you, this was 2/3 years ago so I'm not sure if much has changed. When it comes down to it, this place is awful. The work is unbearably boring and the atmosphere is outright pathetic (ie. people gossiping, sleeping with one another). I don't have any advice to management; they would not heed it anyway.

I have been working at Wegmans Food Markets part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-The Wegmans scholarship is a great benefit -Flexible work schedule-

    Cons

-Management at the Dickson City store is terrible. -Management doesn't want you to learn and grow -If you are sick and try to call off it seems like the end of the world.

    Advice to Management

If you treat people better they work harder.

    Pros

They have a semi competitive salary compared to the other warehouses or "retail service centers" in the area. Bi-annual raises are wonderful.

    Cons

Certain tasks or jobs performed require more compensation due to level of competency required as well as level of danger. Operator salary should be higher (starting- $20) than a picker (starting 13.50) part time should be paid at the same rate as full time, does not require benefits, and you are doing the same job as everyone else. Critical changes are made overnight without seeking advice from personnel affected by change. No updated training given to compensate.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people, the people on the floor are the ones getting the work done. Do not make critical changes overnight by flipping a switch, changes in business take years until they can be working efficiently. Do not expect change to happen immediately and expect better results. People who operate should be compensated more than those who do not, the job is more dangerous, adds more risk, is more difficult and requires some level of competency. Full time and part time should be paid the same starting rate.

I worked at Wegmans Food Markets full-time

    Pros

    Excellent health and retirement packages.

    Cons

As the company grows, they care more about budgets, profit, and the bottom line. I guess it's a typical progression. While they used to hire the best people, they now hire the most affordable.

    Advice to Management

The old man knew about people and profit. Stick to hiring the best people, not the most affordable.

I have been working at Wegmans Food Markets part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, generally nice workers, scholarship program, cares for employees. Most of the managers are pretty understandable if you need to call out or drop a shift (as long as you don't do it all the time).

    Cons

Hard to move up- I've been here for about a year and haven't done anything besides cashier Cashiering is just downright awful. Standing in the same spot for hours, constantly scanning and bagging if it's busy, and if it's not all you do is stand there... Epitome of boring. No discount on products Bad pay Looked down on as a cashier RUDE CUSTOMERS Constantly feeling under the microscope- 2 weeks after I ended my register training, a manager called me into her office with a few other people and chastised us because our IPMs (items per minute) were not up to the company goal, 14.5. I had only been a cashier for 2 weeks and they told me I was too slow!

    Advice to Management

For starters, give your workers a discount. Even if it's small or just for restaurant items. I shouldn't have the pay $10 for a meal that I'm eating while working there (more than an hour of my pay). Don't treat cashiers like they're lesser than you (not everyone does this, just a few people). Also, maybe allow people who have been working hard to try other jobs off register, not just your favorites.

    Pros

Decent work environment . They are willing to make the employees happy and do things in that respect.

    Cons

The pay is really quite miniscule unless you get to middle mgmt/upper mgmt.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more and look into the unbelievable nepotism with some of the leaders.

I have been working at Wegmans Food Markets full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security. The ability to work a set schedule. However that could change based on who your manager is and if they like you.

    Cons

No accountability for people not doing there job. Management changes too often so there is no constancy in departments regarding quality and products. Everyone only cares about them self and trying to get to the top. Which is already top heavy. It's not a family oriented company anymore. The store manager doesn't even talk to the employees who work on the floor- walks right by to talk with others on their level.

    Advice to Management

People should be promoted based on their hard work and dedication, and knowledge of products and their department, not based on politics and who is friends with who. So sad this company has lost so many of its real values. Customers are even starting to notice. You can only buy your way to the top of some surveys. We will see where we really stand when the employee based one comes to light

    Pros

Sunday pay. Flexible with school schedules.

    Cons

Favoritism and belittling from store manager down to department manager.

    Advice to Management

It's a grocery store stop treating people with disrespect and maybe the moral of the store would be better and customers would be happy shopping there.
