    I worked at WellPoint full-time

    Pros

Pros included, good pay and bonus program, flexibility with working remotely, and decent equipment to work with.

    Cons

Culture is an issue, it is one of fear due to the constant re-orgs in IT, they are so constant that is a distraction no matter how hard you tried to stay focused. Senior leadership was not on the same page, they would fight openly, and the vision was not clearly laid out. Quite a bit of dead weight exists there and the good people kept getting more work and then would get laid off and the dead weight would continue to stick around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean your own house before cleaning others.

I have been working at WellPoint full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Health benefits(watch out for high deductibles though) PTO days, adoption days off, health club reimbursements, tuition reimbursements, EEP services, good company for those just entering in the workforce, support groups, lots and lots of services to help employees

    Cons

Strong disconnect between management and workers, fake open door policy, fake ethics and compliance department(1-800-be-a-snitch), they do not promote with in(so many subsidiaries if you want to be technical they actually do but not from any department you or your co-workers are familiar with), they do not seek to retain employees turn over rate extremely high, they burn you out at all costs as long as the job gets done, this company likes to place to people in management positions where they have no real experience in their department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating your workers like minions and more like people.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is good in comparison to other companies and depending on the time of year overtime is also offered and you may be able to work overtime for another area.

    Cons

Frustrating calls with little to no support from management. If you're a good representative management will sometimes hold you back from advancing within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Support associates more

I worked at WellPoint full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Most of the IT people I worked with worked remote.

    Cons

10 to 14 hour days were the norm. Lots of outdated requirements little decision making from how to deal with these issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the middle management layer as they hear complaints and suggestions and fail to drive them up. There is no work life balance because the culture is one of be seen online and 14 to 16 hour days make you look like you're working hard rather than exposing there's an issue with people who aren't skilled enough to be in some of the decision making positions! Working remote was a god send, but it shouldn't mean 12 hour plus work days!

    Pros

Working from home, Paid time off

    Cons

Lack of training, poor management and executive leadership, set their operations employees up for failure, unreasonable expectations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider how your decisions affect those under you; management is about more than logistics, it involves being a good people person as well.

    I worked at WellPoint full-time

    Pros

Sometimes when we have last minute staff meetings at lunchtime we got pizza. When the work unit was small and self sufficient with good initial management.

    Cons

Then it got too big too fast with mid- level supervisors and QA that audited you to death! Daily audits, weekly audits AND monthly PERFORMANCE plans, just for starters. Listening in to calls, reviewing our screens, we are PROFESSIONALS for Pete's sake. Should have let us do our job with your guidelines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead, follow, or GET OUT OFTHE way. Unit failed.

I have been working at WellPoint full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Got a great look inside how a large insurance company operates.

    Cons

Cut-throat, impossible learning curve, all tech-support outsourced to non-English company, relatively zero in house tech support.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Salary level is good. A LOT of work to do. Lots of opportunities to learn new technologies and skills.

    Cons

A LOT of work to do. Jobs are not secure. WellPoint is famous for having rounds of layoffs. It is difficult to think out of the box there. They talk a lot about work/life balance, but it is mostly just talk.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Ability to work from home

    Cons

IT systems so antiquated half the time the programs don't work and they take millions of dollars from customers for programs that have no value. Account Executives and upper mgt cover it up and support NOT giving customers refunds because that impacts their bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest - listen to the little people instead of just Account Execs.
