Current Employee - OTR Truck Driver

    Pros

    Training, that's about it!!

    Cons

1st Con: They promise .33 cpm, what they actually pay is a joke, .27 c.p.m. And don't expect a pay raise after the 90 day evaluation period!! There making MILLIONS off the sweat of the OTR driver's brow!!

2nd con: Avoid the terminals like the plaque!! God forbid you need or even want to take a shower after a loooong 14 hr day, I saw a previous comment about how there clean, where & which terminal?? Every terminal I've ever been at, there disgusting & filthy dirty!! But yet again I'm a woman on the road, so cleanliness matters to me!! Unlike the men!!

3rd con: Breakdown is a complete joke!! Sat for over 12 hrs because the trailer tandems wouldn't move, had to explain 4 times to my fleet manager about it!! Sent in the Macro 6 different times, wasn't until a woman called me at 10:30 at night & explained to me that I somehow "fell through the cracks", & I sent the 1st macro that morning!! She also explained to me that the freight was more important than the driver's, raised a HUGE red flag for me!! And I thanked her for her honesty!!

4th con: The night & weekend fleet manager's are completely useless!! I'm currently under a load that the BOL says that this load is going to California, where do they send me, to no man's land in the middle of Minnesota!! To a dry bean factory of ALL thing's!! Even called a fleet manager & asked him, he said yes. And God forbid you need an empty trailer, they'll send you to places where they don't release them!! And then send you to drop yard's in the middle of the hood, & expect you to wait for one!! I told them NO!! And went back to the same truck stop that I was at the night before to shut down!! All I've got to say about ALL that, is I got paid for all those miles, thank GOD!!

5TH Con: Fleet manager's have NO idea what we go through!! "0" Zip Nada!! They have no idea & it can be VERY, VERY frustrating!! Especially when you're running hard every day, & expect them to "have your back", just wish they would get some "insight" of what we go through out here!!

6th Con: Werner Cares is a joke!! The only thing they care about is themselves!! That's just a slogan they use to reel you in, & I think it's sad. We make sacrifices every day, away from home for month's on end just to "make ends meet", pay our bill's, & help out our families, I miss spending quality time with my family....

I'm going to get my 6 month's in & moving on!! Because a company this BIG needs some REAL help!! You know the old saying, "The bigger they are, the HARDER they fall"!! And I don't want to be a part of a company that is more concerned about there freight, than there driver's!! How do you think it get's there??

Anyway, hope this review helps ALOT of people looking to get with Werner, & if you don't believe me, become a driver for them & find out "the hard way", & my favorite saying, "pain is your GREATEST teacher"!! Good luck to all!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the driver the priority, & the freight will follow. How do you think it get's there?? And stop promising .33 cpm when it's actually .27 cpm

    Pros

Nice Clean Terminals, Nice Showers, Plenty Good Management, Net Opps

    Cons

    The pay is horrible!
Werner is lowest pay in the industry!
They put a bad dac report on me because i resigned ...after pulling there freight over a year!
I made 17000 dollars with werner in one year... Yes sitting and dead head miles including
crappy runs is part of the business ( 21 1/2 cents a mile )
    What can you expect?
Thats the reason i left... I used them for experience and left
This company is 90 percent students and
people with less than a year experience .. and 10 percent are the trainers and they have 1-5 year otr experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You cant expect good reviews when paying truck drivers like high school kids workin fast food.

    Pros

As a Transportation Management Trainee, I earned a significantly higher salary than most people in my graduating class right out of college. However, if someone other than Werner offers you over 35,000, take it. My salary was 42,400 before terminated. You shouldn't ask for anything less if you have a college degree. It was nice having a convenience store on campus. The perks of just working there were pretty good.

    Cons

Management is always under pressure, thus be expected to answer such ridiculous questions as "Why did you do that?" You will be asked to solve issues that are impossible to fix. It's a truck. It breaks down. There is not always a recover truck. You will be expected to work with ancient technology that is exceptionally difficult to work with. You will almost have to yell at someone to make them take the action you want them to take. This company is not afraid to make their opinion known that they are a GOP supporter and they want you to be as well! The worst part about this place is communication not only with drivers but with management. First, Drivers are asked to be in impossible situations and they do sometimes get behind, but a service level contract does not allow for anyone to be imperfect. Management is good at only a couple things, threatening you with your job and counting their money. Ask almost anyone who works at this place and they will say it is a miserable place to work. The benefits package is horrific, not average as they might lead you to believe. Tension is extremely high from 7 am in the morning till you leave at 5. If you leave at five, just to clean up for the day, expect to leave at 6-7 each evening. Expect very little time off, if any and expect there to be no coverage for you when you're gone so disaster after disaster may persist. I am so happy I was terminated from this place! It was the best thing that could have happened to me. They tried to say I was willfully neglectful on the job, which was never the case. A judge even determined that they lied to them and I never was neglectful. This place is a horrible place to work for and I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for work whether it be professionally or as a driver.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Here is what is breaks down to: Listen from the bottom up. Coach people. Create these little things called Standard Operating Procedures and recommendations! This is the biggest area you can learn from. Also, you NEED to be more neutral towards politics. You can start by not always playing Fox news in the lunch room. you wonder why you can't keep drivers? Your Fleet Managers are MISERABLE!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your divers more, listen to your drives, answer the freaking phone when your driver calls, PAY your drivers more than what you are paying them, quit sitting on new trucks and assigning trucks in horrible condition and PAY your drivers more than you are paying them.
