I have been working at Werner Enterprises

    Pros

Too early to tell, but the training staff and terminal folks have been courteous thus far. I have heard dedicated routes are worth it.

    Cons

Lack of caring from drivers and NO pressure from upper management to fix these issues. I'm OTR training and nearly half the trailers we have pulled have had issues. Whether it is cracked brake shoes, lights, door seals, or tires there have been lots of issues. It is very early with this company, but I am already starting to see bad trends which cause me to fix others laziness and simple avoidable issues. I don't mind working hard, but when I open a trailer full of cardboard and pallets and then find it has cracked brakes and an ABS light that is not working...THIS IS PLAIN LAZINESS!! Punish those responsible for MAKING THE MESS, NOW those FIXING THE MESS OTHERS HAVE MADE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold drivers responsible for their actions. If a driver enters a dropped trailer into their Qualcomm with "No" checked next to the question "Dropped trailer needs maintence?" And the next driver finds a bunch of maintence issues, the driver who didn't do their job by not checking the trailer they dropped should be punished. If drivers started getting fined $20 for every trailer they dropped in awful condition or stacked with garbage, these issues would clear up very quickly. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IS NOT HARD. If something is wrong, get it fixed, or lose your pay for not doing your job correctly. Pretty simple really. Lastly, stop punishing the good drivers who really do want to see productive change occur in this company. Every driver that is left out of commission due to a faulty trailer or tractor. COMPENSATE THEM BETTER, so they are rewarded for finding the issues in your company. Don't thank your people by punishing them by not repairing or compensating them in a timely manner. By not rewarding people they soon lose the drive to want to do the right thing.

I have been working at Werner Enterprises

    Pros

great starting pay Walmart really takes care of their trailers and people... Werner/Walmart dispatcher Mark is awesome he cares and my job was fairly relaxing and quite chill... Home time was great i was home the day i requested or the next day...

You have to make any job your own , dont wait til everything goes haywire to care about your career ...My time on the WMT acct was good and when you and your dispatcher has an understanding like a team its great

    Cons

When Walmart switched my dispatcher and Mark started working weekends only... UNTIL they assigned 2 lilboys Z n B who are scared to communicate with you as if your going to bite there heads off... meaning they always think your trying to tell them what to do always on defense it was strange... like guys hey im on your side.. if u can avoid these 2 plz do... it was always like some secret if they didnt have u a load im like dude i dont mind being on relax mode until u find me a load but they kept u on edge let me know whats going on...

I worked at Werner Enterprises full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The skillets in the cafe always made me come to work on Tuesdays. Big Blue Bargains at the warehouse helped cut my grocery costs. The sales area is probably the best place to work. Except for inside sales. Their social media has improved a lot in the past two years. As an employee it was great to see the drivers on there be so engaged. The lady who runs orientation for employees also is one of the best people in the company.

    Cons

The hours are horrible A 50 hour week is required and there is no flexibility without using PTO. There's an expectation to almost work a full day on Christmas Eve. The people running the show make decisions that upset everyone and they don't care. Their earnings are continually on the decline and it's because they can't keep employees or drivers, and the head people are getting paid millions. It's a family environment but the family always takes favor over worthy candidates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep your employees, give them decent hours, better pay and more reasons to come to work everyday.
