I have been working at Westinghouse full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are great, and as long as you get your work done, mgmt. leaves you alone.

    Cons

Performance reviews here are pre-determined before you even have a sit down with your manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before giving reviews, talk to your people first before giving a generic rating.

I have been working at Westinghouse full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Get to wok with very smart people

    Cons

Have to work in Cranberry, PA: capital of urban sprawl. Long commute, lots of traffic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less bureaucracy. Too many interminable procedures and processes, e.g. CAPAL: overcomplicated, complex, non-intutitive, designed for a computer, not a human being.

I worked at Westinghouse full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salary is good for the area and the work required
Technology and work environment is among the best

    Cons

Company Culture is dated. In the past promotions were given on tenure not skill or qualifications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current CEO is attempting to correct 25 years of "we always done it that way" attitude. Recent changes and cut backs were very necessary. Keep it up!

I worked at Westinghouse full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The compensation is adequate.
The retirement savings are good having both a 401k and a pension.
Gym in the Basement at Headquarters
    Flexible Schedule

    Cons

Raises and promotions seem to be based off of who you know and playing a popularity game. The amount or quality of work takes a back seat to whom you know. Do not sit at your desk and figure things out, go ask other people intelligent questions to simply get your name out there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None.

    From an intern perspective, great.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Westinghouse as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Diverse set of projects. A lot of exposure to different professionals. Invested in my training. A very close work group. Good communication and valued my work and opinions.

    Cons

There is a lot of cost-cutting going on. Technological resources are limited, party because of these cost-cuts. Volatile industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Beware that you can't cost-cut yourself to greatness, and may lose some valuable employees, in the process.

I have been working at Westinghouse full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You are not watched over like most companies as long as you do your work.

    Cons

Contractors are not treated that well

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to fight for contractors that they find are working well so they can get hired.

I worked at Westinghouse as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Amazing people that are smart and always positive. No strict hours, you can start anywhere between 7 or 9 am and can take a lunch between 11 and 2. Leave when you reach 8 hours. Managers are awesome. Many group/team meetings so you get to meet and get to know people in the office.

    Cons

Large company so you don't get to learn a lot.
Very repetitive work. No free coffee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work and change assignments so workers don't get bored and are more familiar with what others are doing.
