I have been working at Westlake Chemical

    Pros

Good co-workers and a great place to build experience. Due to lean environment, you wear a lot of different hats. Good 401K program which has a match and defined contribution.

    Cons

Due to the lean environment, you feel overwhelmed very often. The average pay raise is below the inflation rate. Bonus metrics are never achievable even though company continues to post record profits.

    Advice to Management

Try to retain talent and keep up with the rest of industry with regard to raises and bonuses.

Working at Westlake was a great opportunity to learn a diverse set of skills in a job that had a diverse task set.

    Pros

In an operations setting, work can look very different day to day. One day could be devoted to meetings, while the next day could be devoted entirely to field work. Of course, everyday can be a mix of both.

    Cons

The company has a very lean outlook on operations, this could lead to work overload. But, this is the reason why the job is so diverse as well.

    Advice to Management

A long term outlook should be really considered. Employee happiness can really help productivity, burnout can lead to losing experienced employees. Losing experience can lead to un-quantifiable losses in the future.
