I have been working at Wet Seal part-time

    Pros

I was an assistant manager so I was able to run a store on my own.
    My associates were great.
I had direct contact with the district manager.

    Cons

Store managers were not always pleasant.
    Unrealistic expectations at times.
Corporate was ridiculous in their expectations and communication was poor.
Forced to work full-time hours when part-time employee and paid part-time rate.
High turnover rate meant we were usually understaffed.

    Pros

This was my first experience working with people, so I guess I can say that it was a positive learning experience, but other than that, this was a horrible first job.

    Cons

    -No training
    -Unprofessional management
    -Most business is Spanish speaking
-I was given a schedule before signing paperwork, which pushed back the hiring process
-I was let go because the girl who was supposed to move ended up wanting to stay around

I have been working at Wet Seal

    Pros

People overall are extremely loyal and committed. There is a passion in the field for success, and they are some of the most loyal people (to brand but more so each other) that anyone could find in retail. Great benefits for management.

    Cons

Corporate is totally disconnected from the field and business. From merchandise to store locations, people making these decisions are rewarded for failure while the field pays the price. Is not willing to pay for talent, and training bad. No orientation and no time to get anyone where they need to be. Hires at every level are for warm bodies out of desperation.

Company restructuring, yet keeps a poor regional in the east and demotes a more experienced and successful regional to a district director who understands the business and actually cares about people. That speaks volumes to how serious they are about retaining good people and former corp execs really caring about how to keep the business successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust you people. Hire talent at competitive rates in order to be successful. You don't demote leaders and keep poor, vindictive, and out of touch regionals who have everyone else do their job for them (East), and will throw everyone under the bus who dares to challenge their incompetence. Hope the company makes a comeback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employees know two weeks in advance that they are being let go and stop keeping secrets. We all knew we were getting laid off but to keep giving everyone the run around about it is not professional.
