I worked at Wet Seal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I had an amazing staff. Discount wasn't bad. I had some really good people working around me who helped me work my way up. The employees in the stores and the staff made coming in worth it.

    Cons

The company's vision was unclear. After working there for several years, I could tell they had no idea who the customer was. The store that was supposed to be junior retail would carry adult lingerie items. Furthermore, I was informed that I would lose my job about 5 days prior to the store closing. The upper management lied continously insisting the stores would be revamped with new merchandise. My store went into black friday with September clearance -_- then the company had the nerve to set those impossible unattainable goals. No one wants to buy the same " I woke up like this" screen tee in 10 colors. Imagine waking up to that on Christmas. But I digress. I have an extensive list of complaints and could rant forever.

    Advice to Management

Put some better training practices into place to help with growth and development of employees. Loss prevention is a joke! Goals would be unrealistic with no ideas on how to reach them. Pay the extra money for a credible shipping company. That is all.

I worked at Wet Seal (More than a year)

    Pros

Good discount. Fun for young people.

    Cons

Hard to advance. Treated management like a work horse. Mandatory overtime without good solutions. Lots of corporate turn over.

    Advice to Management

Vacation time is earned and valuable to employees in order to be successful. Never deny reasonable vacation request.

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

With a good boss, the job can be tolerable. The discount on clothing is wonderful. Can be a fun place to make friends and learn about sales and marketing.

    Cons

The company pays low and there are very little opportunities for progress. Expect to work weekends and have many on-call shifts.

    Advice to Management

Most employees really care about the company, so you should do the same for them. Some assistant managers had been working 7 or more years still at 10 dollars an hour. In 2015 this is shameful.

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a fun company- played music videos & sold colorful clothes, and the job was fairly easy.

    Cons

Corporate was terrible- I didn't get paid for months. They understaffed, so I wasn't allowed to leave the store for my breaks. The back room was dirty and disorganized.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees! And look towards ways to be more environmentally friendly- there was so much paper & plastic waste from shipment.

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun, laid back environment at both locations I worked at. Helped with customer service skills and prepared me for future jobs.

    Cons

Terrible company, gave sales associates one day notice that all stores in the Midwest were laid off where as all of management was given only three days notice all stores in the Midwest were closing. If someone has to submit a two weeks notice, the company we're working for should have done the same.

    Advice to Management

Be careful when accepting positions with this company, they do not have strong values and are willing to lay off their employees without any warning or consideration. Also terrible bonuses for those who were laid off.
