I have been working at Wet Seal full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The "wetseal family", as they refer to it, is unlike any other retail environment I've worked in. Stores reach out to one another constantly, the home office staff is typically very personable and the directors are generally pleasant people who support your decisions or offer reasonable alternatives. You truly get the feeling that everyone who is a part of the organization is contributing to the "one team, one dream" philosophy. The people are what make wetseal what it is. They do allow flexibility in everyday business decisions as long as you can speak to the changes that are made. The company recognizes and celebrates wins every opportunity they get, proving that strong KPI's are possible and also allowing stores to have their moment to shine.

    Cons

From what I have personally experienced, everyone in this company is in way over their heads. Everyone I've met is overwhelmed (even if they don't admit it) and countless stores are operating in survival mode at essentially all times, just trying to get the minimum done to stay ahead. I don't think it's laziness nor do I think people are incapable of doing their jobs here, there are simply too many tasks coming from too many directions with minimal resources provided. While the company is making noticeable steps to change this, it is not a problem that has been resolved. Stores are literally falling apart, fixtures and doors broken, paint missing, floors cracking, you name it, and little to nothing is done. And the registers... Just.. Wow. Not even the people at the help desk can handle the problems they produce. I know for a fact this company is losing money just because the registers don't ring things properly (and all the time we spend trying to fix them) .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please, tell us what is happening. Huge reductions in workforce, store closures beyond the initial estimates and now the possibility of bankruptcy? We all have the Internet, you know. And it's concerning finding these things and knowing (internally) we are completely in the dark.

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

great environment, this job is jun, easy, and relaxing. I spent most days talking to customers, organizing the store and working at the register. The managers are very persistent about making sales and selling the Wet Seal Promotional cards. The interview was also relaxing and simple.

    Cons

The interview was a group interview, which I normally do not like. I also did not enjoy the hours of the job. I guess it depends on what location you get, but I felt like some weeks I would have too many hours and some I would have barely any at all. With balancing school, I wanted a happy medium but never seemed to get it

I worked at Wet Seal full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing service culture; Family-like team structure; internal advancement opportunities.

    Cons

No work life balance as a manager (you live at the store) and the pay is less than competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your team. Choose quality people to run your store and pay them what they deserve they will be happy and loyal to you. The pay is what made me have to leave. I loved my job but had to support my family better. Also, invest in your operations. This will allow your managers to focus more on business and less on tasking and in turn will require management to work less allowing more work life balance.

I worked at Wet Seal part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I love working at Wet Seal. You get so close to your coworkers over the time that you work there. They have your back and are willing to always lend a helping hand.

    Cons

They didn't really take into consideration that although I was their employee, I was also a full time college student. Wet Seal was about a 20 minute drive from my dorm and they would force me to come in during ice and snow storms even when campus was shut down.

I have been working at Wet Seal full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun environment and a lot of nice people working for them in our district. The employees are all like family and like to go out and do things together on our free time.

    Cons

District managers don't listen to anyone's opinion, but the Store manager's. Also there are not enough tasking hours sometimes for lower volume stores to get things done. They also need to fire allocation team.

I worked at Wet Seal as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

At the time of my employment, I was around 18 years old. Fashion was a big deal for me, so their 40% employee discount was an absolutely amazing thing! At the time I was there, the managers and co-workers were very nice and always willing to help if I didn't know how to do something.

    Cons

The only thing I did not like while working there was the change of store managers. When we were given a new store manager, I will not name her, she seemed to pick off all of the old employees and hire new ones that were from her culture. She would start off by cutting their hours to the point that they would quit. Sometimes, she would even give them work load that was extreme and when they could not handle it, she let them go. Unfortunately, I was one that quit because one day a week was not helping me at all!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find better management that do not discriminate when hiring and firing employees.
