I have been working at Wet Seal part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I genuinely liked working at wetseal and enjoyed my job helping customers. All of the managers and other associates were like family. I got a lot of hours, most weeks at least 20 or more. 40% associate discount on all regular items.

    Cons

    It's retail. Also minimum wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This isn't to management, or even the district manager, it's to the dirty hirer ups that decided laying off thousands of people with only a couple hours notice. I was called 3 hours before a closing shift and told it would be all associates last day that day. And again, the manager or even district manager had no idea, and they were also losing their jobs. We were lied to for months and told we were clearing old stock out as the store got emptier, and told not to worry and we would be getting all new spring merchandise. It's really a fun thing to find out the second day of the new year you're out of a job.

I have been working at Wet Seal

    Pros

Flexible hours-My manager was very accepting of the fact that I was full time student as well as a full time assistant manager. She let me have every Tuesday and Thursday off
    Vacation hours general
It's not a hard job, as long as you enjoy constant movement. The company is slightly demanding regarding visuals. They send a new update every week and give you about three days to complete it. There are also markdowns every week.

    Cons

My experience may differ from everyone else's but the associates were always very unreliable. They would call off for shifts or arrive late often. My manager was too relaxed about this, and rarely wrote anyone up for it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your employees and don't create personally relationships with them. They tend to stop respecting you. I understand retail is an environment where creating personal relationships can be easy considering you're spending so much time with someone in one location, but it's a bad idea to get too close.

    Pros

Full time workers (managers) get benefits both dental and medical. Paid vacation. Holiday pay. 40% off employee discount.

    Cons

YOU MUST WORK ALL HOLIDAYS! That is the busiest times for these stores. That's when the most sales happen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay sales associates more than minimum wage.

    I worked at Wet Seal

    Pros

Make lots of friends and regular customers. Very good sales for customer. Generous employee discount. Partnered with sprint

    Cons

District manager is terrible, she cannot accept responsibility for her actions when she has to answer her managers questions. District manager is rude, she will not promote within no matter how good you are if she doesn't like you. And she gossips. To her employees!. But wet seal is a great company and I grew a lot there

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was an assistant manager so I know teamwork regarding management would be great as well as giving props where they are due. Give am equal amount of negative and positive comments

    Pros

    -Discount
    -Store Manager
    -Friendly Co-Workers
-Experience in most aspects of retail

    Cons

-Not much opportunity for growth or raises
-Only get breaks if working over 5 hours
    -Expectations for shipment are unrealistic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No matter how difficult things get, don't let the sales associates know you're stressing. I causes an imbalance in moods in the workplace. Also, a 15-minute break would be appreciated for 5 hour or less shift.

I have been working at Wet Seal full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I truly enjoy the daily challenges. My DD and Regional are AWESOME! They are concerned about my store and provide support and constructive criticism when necessary. You are praised for your accomplishments, but as adults we shouldn't look for "pats on the back" just for doing your JOB!

    Cons

Unfortunately the weekly hours are sales driven, which means you have to have sales associates that are able to multitask with minimal supervision. I see people complaining about a lot of things, but need to apply common sense to the situation. If you're not making the sales you don't get the hours. If you don't support your staff, they will not work for you. If you are not positive your staff won't be either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at what's working at the store level. They are making good strides to change the environment.
