12 years at a financially instable company

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Federal Way, WA

ProsMany so called benefits, people trying to help you when you are in difficulties

ConsFinancially instabel company, lays off frequently and shuts down groups

Advice to Senior ManagementAppoint a technical person, engineer or scientist to lead the R&D

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

More focused on stockholders earnings than on those taht sell and move product (employees)

Logistics Analyst (Current Employee) Federal Way, WA

    ProsNone I can think of.

ConsExpect you to support all their PC left leaning causes.
Focused on Stockholders NOT those that actually sell lumber, OSB or ELP.
SG&A cuts irregardless of 200+ million in profits.
    Profits over people
Leadership clueless on leading employees. All Management are cheerleaders.

    Crappy management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat job security, benefits good, very educational a company that you can look forward toward retiring

ConsTerrible management. No bonus for sister mill, if you get hurt clearly company fault you will be fired, worst team members I've meet in my life. Management as well as team members always looking for your worst, never have anything positive to say about your performance regardless how much time and energy you give this company.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat team members like people. Do not micro manage every area of company. Reward females in your company without making them beg.

My experience at weyerhaeuser was the very worst i've ever been a part of.

Trimmer Operator (Former Employee) Vanceboro, NC

ProsThe best is the work experience, then dealing with people in general, after that it's learning exactly who you are. They'll push you.

ConsThe downside is that if you get hurt on the job and it's due to mechanical malfunction, THEY WILL TRY AND FORCE YOU OUT, BECAUSE FOR SOME PEOPLE THEY DON'T HAVE LIGHT DUTY. FRONT OFFICE BREAKS ALL THE RULES

Advice to Senior ManagementHOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE FORCED OUT OF A JOB AND NOT KNOWING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT. GIVING BAD REFERENCES AS WELL AS BLOCKING UN EMPLOYMENT. ALL TIME LOW LIFES

    Worst

Not Reporting (Former Employee) Jackson, MS

ProsNone not a single reason to have anything good

ConsPoor conditions. Unsafe, bad managers, poor maintenance. Watch managers steal gas from the Company gas pumps and use in their personal autos. Managers take afternoons off to go golfing and claim meeting time. Use company credit cards and turn in as meeting expense. Yeah I am pretty sour on them but dang staling everywhere and the mistreat the employees trying to get the job done...its really wild. I am glad I am out that place, I was really shocked at all tha went on. No wonder they had a big downsize in 2011.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake away some authority from managers. Stop the wild spending for "meetings"...stop the thefts.

    Worst pulpmill - Port Wentworth

Process Control Engineer (Former Employee) Port Wentworth, GA

    ProsNothing I can think of.

ConsMiddle management doesn't know how to treat people with respect. I was called at 2:00 AM because mill was down. I was not paid any comp time or any overtime. The excuse that my manager gave me is that I am exempt employee, so I have to work whenever mil managers need me. I couldn't plan my weekend at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire middle management and hire some good people.

This place is horrible. It sucks the life out of you

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Federal Way, WA

    ProsThere aren't many.
    Coworkers are nice.
    Decent location.

ConsManagement is not made up of effective leaders.
    You will never be promoted.
Promotions are based on whether or not you will do whatever managment wants. Have to be a puppet.
Underpaid for the work you do.
    Benefits have been cut.
You don't have time to use your vacation.
Management asks for input on ways to improve, then ignores suggestions choosing to go with their "better" plan.
You're given constant praise until it comes time for annual reviews.
To be successful, you need to say yes a lot: "Yes, I would love more work." "Yes, your idea is better than mine." "Yes, I already make too much money."
Bottom line, they don't care about their employees. It's all about pleasing the shareholders.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need a serious overhaul. Starting with a lot of high up managers. A manager needs to have a solid understanding of the business, but also have a great set of social skills. Communication is horrible, which leads to the rumor mill running on overdrive. You are losing highly effective employees because better opportunities are arising all over. Anyone who has been there less than 10 years is looking elsewhere. Others are just riding it out because they don' t want to look for a new job at this point in their life.

    Going downhill fast!!

Senior Accountant (Former Employee) Federal Way, WA

ProsGood benefits and good parking at the Corporate building.

ConsThe Company has gone downhill recently. They say the employees are their biggest asset, but are not "walking the talk." They laid off a lot off employees with tenure to get the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to SG&A reductions. They are going to be in big trouble when the Company starts doing better.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGood luck!

Apply only if you do not believe in diversity!

    Designer (Current Employee) Carrollton, TX

ProsWRECO division of Weyerhaeuser is an excellent division to work for I'm told. They provide excellent training opportunity as well as embrassing diversity.

ConsThe engineered wood side of Weyerhaeuser is very old school. The good ole boy system is in full effect! They openly show unfairness towards minority employees and base promotions off personal relationships with management and subordinates and not on performance and/or knowledge skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen your doors and welcome diverse opinions and embrass all that diversity has to offer.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
