Not good for fresh college grads.

    Senior Analyst (Current Employee)
    Benton Harbor, MI

ProsThere's some opportunity for international travel so you get those bragging rights.

Consbaby boomers everywhere! it doesn't help being the fresh college grad among them; not only do they give you a hard time but they don't have any training programs to get people on board.

My biggest pet peeve was that no one seemed to have a decent college degree there except for the executives. Most of the people got their Bachelor's degrees only when the company began funding it. Even managers and directors have come from the most remote / unheard-of colleges. And it still feels like a company that's being run by 5th graders.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure that you and your people get proper training. It seems like the only thing management can do is to count on consultants to make all the real decisions. The only thing I've seen senior management do is to make the payments and sign whatever comes in from the consultants. Incompetent management is ruling whirlpool and the company going to be eaten alive!

IT at Whirlpool heading south fast

    GIS Lead Analyst (Current Employee)
    Benton Harbor, MI

ProsGlobal Company with the ability to get good international experience

ConsThe new managment doesn't care about it's people. If you want somthing done, get someone from the outside to suggest it and you will get what you want

Advice to Senior ManagementThe current IT managment has ran the place into the ground. You need to step back and listen to the people that know the place best. Bringing in folks from the outside is not always the right answer. You preach about listending to your people and developing your people but go outside the first chance you get.

Whirlpool could learn from the top 25 employer list

    Senior Systems Analyst (Current Employee)
    Benton Harbor, MI

ProsFreedom to manage your own time as needed. This allows most people the ability to work from home or remotely as needed. The benefits package for people entering the company are very lucrative. Outside of Management the people you work with on a daily basis are very skilled and helpful as well as great people.

ConsMiddle and upper management has little knowledge of the skills below them, or the work it takes to get any of the work done within the organization. Very disconnected and offer little or no leadership qualities. Human resources is not working to help people, they only process what mgmt has them. Politics are horrible within people who are disconnected from what needs to happen.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue and appreciate employees. Help build morale and guide career paths. Trust your people to have the ability to get the job done without looking over your peoples shoulders.

    Cutting their way to Prosperity

    Sales Manager (Former Employee)

ProsWhirlpool Corporation has the strongest brands in the industry and nearly 100 distribution centers, nationwide.

ConsThey continue to de-value the salesforce and view them as a necessary expense instead of an asset that brings dollars into the company. Little ownership by Knoxville and Benton Harbor of invoicing, product availability, order issues, or warranty service issues. These tasks then fall upon the field sales force, who would rather be selling than dealing with administrative issues.

    Declining

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are good people there! Nice product discounts.

ConsCulture and company are in decline. They ignore reality. Ask anyone what it's like to work in GIS! Competition globally has put incredible pressure on everyone leading to longer work days. They do forced rankings of your performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementPositive employee recognition!

    A sinking ship

ProsGood benefits, ability to work golf, appointments, and life into your work day, mileage checks, good people

ConsUnethical practices, account managers that do nothing (go to their vacation homes, dishonest on their weekly goals), stagnant leadership mainly due to the CEO, poor execution of layoffs, rumor mills, lack of customer support from AM's, lowest pay in the industry for sales field, political hiring decisions.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of your CEO, President and VP Sales.
