Mandatory employee turnover from upper management is puzzling.

    Pros

Free stand mixers and immersion blenders.

    Cons

Firings are many and often. If you do not have a family you are fair game for sacrifice to save the lives of others' children. Pay is much lower than anything auto or aero in the area. Product integrity is extremely low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Chill out and stop thinking you are the greatest company in the world.

    Pros

100 year old company with many brands.

    Cons

They do not want to hear the truth. They are quick to react toward those speaking their mind and being truthful, and it is not a positive outcome for the individual. Anyone with knowledge and skills are the first ones they look at when they are financially challenged, which is about every three years. Additionally, they love to recruit and hire right out of college. These individuals are made to believe that they will be sitting in a nice office in short time. They do not let these young people learn and grow; they just promote them to silence them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not promote your new recruits so quickly. Do not put individuals in managerial positions when they do not have the necessary skills.

    Pros

Suggestive location and canteen, sadly there is nothing else i can say of positive regarding this company

    Cons

you can be as qualified as you wish, but there are only 2 possibilities to do any career in Whirlpool

    - you know someone important in the company
    - you are a very pretty/sly woman without conscience (you will need it to kill the possible competition)

Work-life balance? here they do not even know what that is, you can start work at 6 in the morning and finish in the middle of the night, the only recognition you will get is a call from security asking you to go badge because the insurance can not cover us staying in the office for work (so not only you will work for free with your boss complaining because you are not fast enough but you will also not have any insurance against accidents etc). and of course Holiday and Home time do not exist, people will reprimand you because during the night or during your holidays you did not answer to some emails or did some work.

there is no life while you work in Whirlpool but only WORK and zero recognition.

do the smart thing and stay away

all you will find in Whirlpool is pain, anger, hate and disappointment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the current HR, they are the main reason why people go away from Whirlpool

    Pros

The pay and hours were good when I started. Meet some of the best people I ever worked with.

    Cons

The company only cares about the profit, not about the employees. They started making us work every Saturday of the month with only 1 weekend off. They offer insurance for the employees but it doesn't pay anything towards the bill. Was told by a employee at the dentist office that Whirlpool's dental was the worst they had ever seen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some classes on people skills & ethics. And start treating your employees better. Because without them you wouldn't have a job or the BIG bonuses.

Former Employee - GIS Lead Analyst in Benton Harbor, MI

    Pros

Decent pay for the location, training

    Cons

IT leadership does not embrace the CEO's work life balance. You are expected to be available 24hrs a day. I have never been on vacation without having to help fix a crisis. Recognition and reward has nothing to do with hard work, it's politics. I got tired of being taken advantage of and left. To show how much Whirlpool cared when I left, I got a 15 question Survey monkey, not even an exit interview, they just don't care

I now work for a company that respects and rewards me, it was a good decision to leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop listening to GIS leadership and go "undercover boss" to understand what really goes on. Most LDP are feed up with the lack of leadership as well as many other employees, but they endure because there are few options to remain in the area. If there were local options for employment, 20% of IT would leave, if not more.

I would replace 60% of the GIS managers and leadership because they really don't know what being a leader is about, they are nothing but people who have attained a position.

Current Employee - Production Operator in Clyde, OH

    Pros

insurance benefits and 401(k) for those with hired in the right time frame.

    Cons

Does not follow the employee handbook guidelines. Favoritism. If you dress a certain way (showing a lot of skin, etc.) you are treated better and get the job you want over those with seniority. Doesn't offer 401(k) opportunities to newer employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Investigate the reasons for new and temporary employees getting promotions. Check into the fact that the people getting these jobs are dating other advisors or are relatives (by marriage or otherwise).

Former Employee - Electrician in Amana, IA

    Pros

Its a job that if you can survive long enough, you might make enough money to put some food on the table

    Cons

Management always looks for way to discipline or terminate their employees while dragging them under the short bus so to speak. You are supposed to work to live, not live to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your facts straight, stop trying to pull the discriminatory card, and remember that the employees work for you. If you want a good company, then treat the employees good. Otherwise you will get negative feedback, unhappy workers, and less of a work force to push your product out the door. Which in turn, will mean you will lose your job. If you don't want to lose your job, then get your act together, and treat the employees better.

Former Employee - They say it was logistics lead...I highly doubt they know what logistics really is in Miami, FL

    Pros

Summer Friday, half of day off on Fridays during the summer...that's all.

    Cons

Very Disorganized, no clear management direction, Good ERP system that is not well implemented so is useless, too many young managers that act and believe they know way too much and they really don't know anything, Talent Pool or Performance review is not based on performance but more into your PR skills with managers, Health insurance is more costly than not having one...I really don't have anything good to say I really regret taking that job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys are way disconnected with reality and are more focus in counting pennies than solving the real issues you have under you...Open your eyes and ears and apply real leadership! P&L should not drive the strategies of the company!

    Pros

Low cost of living in Benton Harbor. Great brands that include Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Magic Chef, and Kenmore. Easy job with limited negative performance reviews.

    Cons

Tough industry....very competitive...GE and Samsung have lower prices. Decision making is very slow and needs to be streamlined.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce layers of management. Hire more people internally and develop a strong training program for future leaders.

    Former Employee - I T Person
    Former Employee - I T Person

    Pros

    Good products and great discounts

    Cons

The I.T department is a joke. They outsource all there infrastructure and they pay for the lowest level of support which makes for very unstable systems. They are more interested in hiring a manager than an actual I.T person. They do not value technical skills at all. If you know too much they will try and get rid of you.

Forced rankings - they have this system where they basically manage you up or they manage you out. They will literally make up anything they like against you and put it in your employee record. HR will side with management every time. I know someone who was given a poor rating and they didn't receive a single comment as to why.

Thinking of working in I.T here? Ask the managers about turnover. Find out how long the managers and directors have held their current positions. You'll notice most people are new because the turnover is so high. Ask them what happened to the person who held the position before? Ask them if the person is still with the company?

Management sticks together - if you're a bully and have no problem giving out bad ratings and reviews you will rise to the top. If you do what's right and fight for your employees you will sink like a rock!

Are there good people here? Yes but they are few and far between. The new people they seem to be hiring are short term folks who are just passing through. The type of folks who come in an experiment. They ruin people's careers while trying to rise to the level of their own incompetence.

If you are considering a job (careers don't last here), consider yourself warned!
