Decent work/life balance, however heavy on tenured talent which makes it difficult to move up.

    Control Buyer (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsRelative to other employers I have had, the work/life balance is healthy. Benefits were great.

ConsThe company operates from a defensive position. New ideas are not always welcomed. Salary was lower than most other retailers in the area, which contributed to loss of talent. Tenure dominates promotion.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease average salary at the associate level to retain talent.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ConsA few managers seem to lack a corporate vision and adequate planning skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnrealistic time frame and not enough planning.

Upper level management is young. Raises are low. 2 weeks of vacation.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood discount at Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, PBTeen, PB Kids, Mark and Graham and West Elm. They value creativity. Raises are good when you get promoted but otherwise it could be +1% a year.

ConsLong hours, few vacation days, every department is short staffed. Lots of finger pointing and figuring out what happened wrong rather than working on fixing for next time. Company makes the same mistakes over and over again.

Unrealistic time frame for tasking and not enough time for selling.

    Store Manager (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsBeautiful products - nice variety - exclusive

ConsWay too many tasks to do - totally unrealistic. Things change on a daily basis. With all they expect to get done - with the payroll they give - not enough time to do it all and no time for selling. Too bad too. There is truly no work/life balance here - despite what they say.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should do a UNDERCOVER BOSS so you can really see what it is like at the store level.
Less discount on merchandise so you can give "real" raises. I believe in where Laura wants to go with this company - just don't like how she is going about doing it.

    Good start....then downhill from there

    Store Manager (Former Employee)
    Dallas, TX

ProsGreat discount. Quality products. Fun environment especially if you enjoy cooking or are a foodie.

ConsThey no longer practice or support their supposed "People First" philosophy. Have become very commercial and come across as fake and cheesy. Definitely not a customer centric environment in stores.

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to Chuck and take his advice on how to tend to and run a store.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
