Good place, but loaded with tenured talent

Data Scientist (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsEveryone's smart and competent and it's a good place to work so people stay a long time.

ConsHard to branch out into combined strategic + analytic functions.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe CEO needs to stop managing in a reactionary manner. Work from home was just cancelled out of a knee-jerk 'feeling' that people are taking advantage of this option. It's a slap-in-the-face to those who used this policy to balance extreme productivity with life's demands. Have more faith in your charges who are already working around the clock to do the best job possible.

(West Elm) Great corporation support with business start-up mentality

Inventory Planning Department (Former Employee) Brooklyn, NY

ProsLove the small business mentality of West Elm, but has the support of Williams-Sonoma. Great career pathing and training. Used to have Summer Fridays all year!

ConsNo more year-round Summer Fridays. :( Felt like a lot of promotion talk, but no action. Small bonuses and small raises. Hard to move up within and lots of turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to maintain employees and make it easier to have a long-term career with the company - I would have loved to stay longer, but it was time for me to move upwards and onwards.

ProsChallenges and sales competitions between sales associates within your store, region and company with fantastic prizes and incentives. Great team of employees and management. Fantastic company discount. Flexible hours.

ConsStress and demand of holiday season and retail. This goes without saying with any retailer.

Advice to Senior ManagementFantastic work environment, exciting opportunity to grow within company.

Really enjoyed my career at WS

Control Buyer (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsDirect management, great people, mentoring, great product, ownership of your business even if you are at a planner level, fun work environment, consistent learning and training

ConsIssues with senior leadership. It really depended on the org you were under, but it seemed that it was a much tougher world in merchandising versus inventory management

    Serious support

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Bellevue, WA

ProsWilliams-Sonoma is serious about customer care and supporting their staff. Questions are addressed and answered. Customers and quality of product are the two most important factors driving their business.

ConsThe computer system makes it difficult to follow up with clients and takes to much time to enter in client information. Because of this follow up is almost impossible.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou care about the quality of your product line, because you understand that quality matters. However, when it comes to your POS and computer system, it becomes difficult to maintain that quality of service with substandard programs and equipment.

    Great Place to Work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsStrong financial peformance, great brands, high caliber talent, terrific female diversity, entreprenurial spirit, beautiful offices, competitive pay and health benefits

ConsHard charging leadership with limited resources provided; not much ethnic diversity; limited paid time off for newcomers; limited work/life balance support

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the time to listen to the people who work in your company; improve paid time-off policy; let people work from home occasionally
