I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great products and for the most part good people to work with. @ CCH you have some one of the best reputations in the industry and you are able to leverage that every day.

    Cons

Always some change on the horizon and the communication of those changes is almost always poorly done and unknown until the very last minute when senior management announces the change. Transparency is a farce at the company and once you are in one business unit it is very difficult transfer into another so you find yourself stuck in neutral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please communicate better with your front line managers so they can in turn not look so silly in front of their teams when these changes come down the pipe line.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good portfolio companies with great products across numerous vertical markets...many good ops for talented people. Usually a good work / life balance.

    Cons

Slow to move culture. Focus on centralization of services (shared service model) has not always been smooth and has been a major focus of company instead of externally on customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not enough development optys for mid-level employees. Need to focus more resources externally on market to keep pace with customer needs.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Salary was decent although the benefits have been steadily getting worse over the last few years. Management never seems to figure out what they want, so employees get a flavor-of-the-week approach to problem solving. Benefit from a niche market with little competition. Dedicated employees that understand the voice of the customer.

    Cons

Obsession with profits with little attention to working conditions. Poor prospects for growth and very little training provided. Most management seems to be hired from outside Wolters Kluwer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you take care of your employees, your employees will take care of the customer. Listen to veterans that know the customer and profits will take care of themselves.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent benefits and some really good individual employees

    Cons

irrational adherence to the belief that every aspect of new software development could be estimated and scheduled prior to initiation of work on a new feature. lead to endless rounds of estimation.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice work/life balance, work from home, good benefits, good 401k. Nice people to work with, you can develop lasting friendships if you choose to do so.

    Cons

Software development is not bread and butter for this company, hence heavy emphasis on consultants and SIX Sigma process improvement. Some times it really felt like software development job was more of a "let's spend whole day on talking about software development with management" job. Tons of red tape because IT infrastructure was outsourced to Perot Systems. Do not count on merit based promotions, so your hard work will not be recognized.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Philadelphia, PA

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The benefits were good and the access to management to move projects forward was consistent. There is the possibility of taking on as much responsibility as you can/want, if you are ambitious and seek it out.

    Cons

There's a lot of "figure it out as you go" mentality here. Projects seem to be slow to get approved and even slower to move forward or complete. And the compensation was quite low compared to other industries I've worked in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time developing employees and talking about goals and objectives to better manage their professional goals and steer them in that direction.
