    Pretty Good

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Pleasanton, CA

ProsThe Generation Workday program does a good job of bringing in top talent and grooming them to be the future faces of the company. For what I do at the company, I found the pay to be great, coming out of school. The company is growing, so they are adding benefits all the time. Nice free gym membership.

ConsIn certain roles, you can be stretched thin a times. Workday emphasizes fun and friendship as being important to the overall culture, but It can be more attainable to some than others.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep investing in your employees and paving the way for great enterprise SaaS!

Fun place to work, but management could use training

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFlexible work schedule. Open to working from home and there are lots of employees who work remotely from home offices 100% of the time.
Lots of employee "perks" and and fun contests.
Promote healthy lifestyle with health club discounts, brown bag seminars etc…
Product is great and getting even better.

Cons1st/2nd level managers are still doing an individual contributor jobs and thus aren't effective leaders or communicators
A lot of managers seem to be people who have just "been there a long time" not necessarily people who are true leaders. Manager Leadership training would be a huge help here.
Career path isn't obvious nor discussed.
    PTO lags behind other companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer training to your managers so they are more skilled at leading effectively.

was amazing, turning bureaucratic in a hurry...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosgreat product, solid top (as in C-level) leadership, ethical

Consway too political for a company of its age and stage.

Advice to Senior Managementdevelop and promote based on performance and talent v. personal relationships and preferences. stop making talent decisions based on second, third hand perceptions. practice what you sell...top flight HCM.

    Somewhat disillusioned

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSaaS technology definitely represents the next wave in Enterprise Administrative systems.

ConsLots of former PeopleSoft employees in the ranks. Lots of Bureaucracy for a small organization.

Opportunity if you are in the "in" crowd

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCompany is growing fast and gaining market share. Good ride while the other ERP companies struggle to get in the cloud.

ConsVery cliquey, and if you are not Peoplesoft alumni, your career options are limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize and utilize experience of employees who have other than Peoplesoft backgrounds. Give the over 30 yo new hires as warm a welcome as the new college graduate kids.

    Surprising.....

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMuch of the executive management are fantastic and have great ideas / experience. The company has lots of perks that make it an enjoyable place to work.

ConsNearly zero opportunity for advancement regardless of what you do, how well you do it, or how long you've been there. Stock options are pretty much non-existent. Extremely frustrating on how little are shared with the employees in general when some folks consistently receive extra. Pay scale is below market standards and raises are non-existent.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a strong look at the employees and solicit feedback. Many are dissatisfied with lack of growth potential. Most importantly - share the options...... In what universe does it make sense that only VP's and higher get all the options. Some brand new employees have 5 times the number of options as employees who have been there for twice as long....

Good break after graduating from UC Berkeley

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Pleasanton, CA

ProsLaid back attitude, allowed to work from home sometimes, good work-life balance are all great parts of working at Workday. Also, the company is successful and generally people are upbeat. Also nobody gets fired here. So considering the company outlook, this is a great place to work if your priority is job security and low stress.

ConsLimited exposure to widely used frameworks and development tools--this is especially true for Application Developers. On the Tools team you get more exposure, but it's mostly just Java and a little bit of XML processing. The problem is a "Not Invented Here" attitude, that results in more work for you and fewer employable skills to gain. A little too much company kool-aid; sometimes the hype gets to me. Not all managers are top notch (they get fired more rarely than employees) and some are just plain ineffective and annoying (but most of them were at least developers at some point). Also pay is low.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your employees enough work to feel like they are productive. Don't be a nervous nanny, nobody likes a micro-manager (a little bit of an epidemic here). Treat your employees like adults, not kids.
