Good Company but division has challenges

    Underwriter (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsEmployees work together and collaborate well, compensation and benefits are solid, good risk control support and colleagues are bright, intelligent people that have lots of intellectual capital to share.

ConsDivisional management is stale and full of personal fiefdoms. Unit management has crushed moral. No real opportunity for advancement within organization

Advice to Senior ManagementReally revamp. Clean house and create a sense of vision, leadership and empowerment with your underwriting team. Loss ratios won't improve if underwriters don't take a vested interest because they do not feel empowered.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Used to be a lot easier here

    Underwriter (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits are good. 401k is extremely good. Medical ins could be better. Salaries seem competitive. Very dynamic company - pro and con. A lot of very talented people here. Global company with a lot of camaraderie with overseas colleagues. Nice working environment.

ConsPractice of rewarding incompetence with promotion rather than removing that incompetence from the company. Not enough manpower, low head counts in critical functions. Not much opportunity for progression - incompetence with friends in high places will win over talent very time. Used to be a quality based company now there is a much more production driven mentality.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward talent not incompetence. Bring back the focus on quality.

    Good Environment...HIGH turnover

Technical Assistant (Current Employee) New York, NY

    ProsGood environment, easy going management

ConsTurnover seems pretty high. You could be temping for a long time before getting offered a full-time position.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake more temps permanent if they've been there a while

It was okay, overall dissatisfied because minimum support is provided to do the job. Push back policy.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Stamford, CT

    ProsOverall compensation benefits are good.

ConsA lot of politics within higher management.

    Old Style Management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Stamford, CT

    ProsCompensation is acceptable
401 K benefit is the best.

ConsManagement has been there for years and do not understand how to deal with the new generation of work force.
Many people are there waiting for retirement and do not like change.
CIO’s are out of touch with technology and have been in the company for years.
Most of the IT managers also have been there for years and do not understand anything about technology.
HR is out of touch with employees needs.
    Not very challenging work

Advice to Senior ManagementChange current CIO's and IT management structure.
Offer retirement package to everyone over 55 years old and more than 10 years at XL.

I was part of ceded re datamangement team

Senior Analyst (Former Employee) Gurgaon, Haryana (India)

ProsI learnt a lot though the work was too demanding. Worked like 14 - 18 hours a day. Even not sure of getting offs on weekend. Too much of work pressure. Lot of work to do and there is learning. It's ur choice. I choose to work and learn.. :). Recent mergers in ceded re has made this operations team a very stupid set up altogether. People are switchimg to other jobs like anything. A person who doesn't know anything about database is leading a database management team.Immediate Mangers of ceded re datamangement are awesome. I was lucky to work with them and learn from them. I thoroughly enjoyed those long hours of work. Unfortunately there is shift of powers now. .. and I choose to leave..

ConsStupid higher management. Less salary. No recognition and appreciation of your hard work.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart retaining and appreciating top talents. Stop taking mindless and non sense decisions which affects many careers. ..
