I have been working at Xcel Energy as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Smart people, good pay/benefits, interesting work, and a stable work environment. I would definitely recommend working here

    Cons

Not too many negatives. Somewhat resistant and slow to change. Already an industry leader but could be better. Hiring process needs to be faster.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue on the path of progressive safety methods, modernizing the culture, and focus on renewables. I am really happy with the direction of the company.

I worked at Xcel Energy as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Safe company with great benefits. With all the new EPA regulations there is opportunity for new technology experience. There are not many engineers so there are opportunities for great advancement and pay!

    Cons

As an engineer in a union business, you are not allowed to touch any tools. If you are somebody that doesn't like to get messy then this is a perfect job for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are management if you are an engineer. So if you have a problem with it then fix yourself.

I have been working at Xcel Energy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay & benefits, opportunity to move in to other positions & cross train. Fantastic people to work with who are very committed to what they do, but still know how to enjoy life.

    Cons

Severely lagging in technology. Computer software is upwards of 10 years old and changes are slow to come. Clear division in the bargaining and non-bargaining employees, with occasional resentment between the groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As Xcel's workforce becomes younger, it's imperative that the company commits to becoming more technologically advanced for all employees, not just executives. Additionally, just because someone does amazingly in their role does not mean that they will be an equally amazing manager. Too many poor managers exist and the company is reluctant to do anything about it because we don't want to lose their expertise in other aspects of the business. Find them different roles.

    Pros

very good place for advancement, really make you feel involved and important

    Cons

call center has varying shifts, which sucks and makes planning vacations difficult. and they wont work around other work schedules at all, or any other schedules besides school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

could really use more steady hours. would be nice to have a set schedule.
