    No growth in site.

Senior Staff Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsXilinx has a very flexible work environment. The compensation is very good and the people are very easy to work with on a daily basis. The technology is somewhat interesting, but by no means state of the art.

ConsXilinx is a slow to no growth company. It is essentially a cash cow. Xilinx can always producing a profit, but does not have enough growth to fuel the stock price.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell the company or buy a company. Either decide to be a cash cow for a larger organization, or try to gain market share by acquiring it. The idea of focusing on the latest silicon node as a growth vehicle is ludicrous. Altera missed the 65nm node, but Xilinx barely had blip in their market share. It certainly has never helped the stock price.

Good place to work. Lots of internal changes going on.

Staff Software Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsRelaxed work culture. Good work-life balance. Hands-off, results oriented management style.

ConsLimited opportunities to advance career-wise. Company going through some re-orgs internally. Lots of "old-timers" whose mentality might be hard to change. Lots of hierarchy for the size of the company - too many "directors" in the company

Advice to Senior ManagementDo whatever it takes to improve company's growth.

A great place for people with families to work.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsThe management attitude towards work life balance is great. It is very unusual for the Silicon Valley.

ConsJob offers tend to be less than other companies in the same field and the 401K contributions by the company are really low.
The company tends to attract people who are more interested in work life balance than in working with the most talented engineers. Of course there are some really bright people there, but they only tend to stay if they have families or want to have a more flexible schedule.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a way to attract and keep talented engineers.

Safe, conservative company, that is trying to change its culture

Senior Manager (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsGood work, life balance. Xilinx is still the leader in PLDs unless someone displaces the company.

ConsToo conservative - the company and its management don't do much out-of-the-box thinking

Advice to Senior ManagementThe senior management needs to be more open to new market opportunities.

Change is Ahead but will take time

Senior Marketing Manager (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsThere are the best reasons to work at Xilinx. The top three reasons include the fact that there are good people in the company despite the layoffs and changes. The layoff was good in cleaning up overhead but there were also some key people that were layed off as a result. The drive to work is a great commute (reverse commute from valley). The Xilinx product offering remains innovative and creative although the competition is increasing.

    Consinstability today in organization restructuring
    poor communication
    dilution of core values

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of the people that do the work; Understand fully what business you are managing

It is a place you can have a good work life balance.

Principal Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsI like the fact that it is non confrontational, and of course the work life balance is a huge plus.

ConsThe lack of growth within the company is a con, and since it is a large company others may get lost in the shuffle.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more focus groups with the regular employess to have one-on-ones about what is going on within the company.
