    Pros

OK pay, you get to meet a lot of interesting people

    Cons

Management is overwhelmed between trying to balance being a supervisor and therapist, odd work hours, they need better background checks on their therapists. No real opportunities for advancement, no raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your staff better, better communication is needed between corporate and spas

    Pros

One lucky day you will be able to go in thinking..."Thank God...this is my last day here "

    Cons

The executive management is a disjointed conglomeration of sycophants and venture capitalist pirates. It is a good idea gone horribly wrong. Everything is run based on fear, rumors and personal idiocy. A great idea one minute is the craziest thing ever heard the next. As for technicians or therapists, just keep moving...trust me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The is no advice to give to management as they will not hear it anyway. The company is run as some private kingdom catering to the whims and personalities of whoever has the most money in. Lose the megalomania and let professional outside parties run your company, none of you are qualified.

I have been working at XpresSpa

    Pros

The Corporate office is a completely toxic environment.

    Cons

The company is run by emotions and paranoia rather than business savvy. The people running the company don't know what they're doing and have created a highly dysfunctional and verbally abusive environment. I would never recommend this company to anyone and I'm doubtful it will be around for much longer.

    Pros

Some nice coworkers, paid time off ,employee discounts at all stores, if lucky you can meet a celebrity

    Cons

This is review for year of 2013.
Where do I start ? just awful, blood sucking, abusive, micromanaging, back stubbing, manipulative management.
The "spa" is a tiny place with small front desk, three loungers, four massage chairs and cabinet with a sink. Everything is cramped, hard to move around without bumping into others.
Chicago location is dead, we were working for minimum wage, no health benefits . Since the numbers were so low, upper management decided that everyone must stand at all times trying to bring clients in or at least sell some low quality neck pillows or lotions. Only two 15 min sitting breaks were allowed plus 30 min lunch.
What they didn't get was, that terminal 5 where we were located is international, only about 15 flights per day, travelers often didn't speak any english .
Performing occasional chair massage was easy, but try to be a nail tech at Expresspa ! Mani and pedi are done in loungers. Thats right there is no mani pedi stations ! so nail techs need to bring water from sink to the lounger in an ugly orange, plastic container and let the client soak, awesome.
We were yelled at for not cleaning good enough, folding towels good enough, dusting, mopping floors good enough. Many people left from such abusive environment. Those who didn't have a direct deposit waited for their last check three months, no response from corporate after many phone calls.

    Pros

Nice staff. They're helpful but mostly because they empathize.

    Cons

Run by incompetent people who are afraid to lose their jobs because they know they cannot be hired elsewhere. Corporate sets policies in place that make a horrible work environment for staff. There are bare minimum breaks and vacation. Work life balance is not respected here. Schedules are put up last minute with drastic changes so you cannot plan any thing in your days off as you have no idea what day it will be next week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to appreciate your staff and listen to their concerns.

I have been working at XpresSpa full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The health benefits are actually very rewarding

    Cons

    EVERYTHING -

    - The management is terrible. They treat you like children, you're constantly talked down to, the former reviews are correct in stating that they have security cameras strategically placed around the spas and call you if they see something they do not like. Talk about mico-managing. There is no structure in the corporate office and people are constantly coming and going, yet it is your fault if you contact the wrong person in the wrong department in the corporate office because you're supposed to know who everyone is.
    - The company is completely secretive. In the former reviews it states that they hid the fact they were opening a new location and closing a current one, and that is true. They are opening another location for us right now and we just heard about it for the first time, however it will be open within 2 months.
    - They pay their General Managers nothing compared to the amount of work they have to do. If you're not there when the corporate office is open (Monday - Friday) they call your cell phone to get a hold of you but they will not pay for a cent of your phone bill. Obviously, you schedule yourself to work Monday - Friday to answer to them when they are there, but then if you are also not scheduled and present on the weekends, you will be in trouble. No one wants to, nor should they ever have to, work 7 days a week with such extreme hours.
    - The therapists are overworked and under paid. The hours are so extreme, generally 16,17,18 hours a day that the spa is open. We're waking up at 3:30 AM to get there in the morning and not getting home until almost 1 AM that night.
    - They are constantly hiring. It's because they can't keep anyone there and can't keep anyone happy. You can see the constant ads on craigslist, as well as the XpresSpa website. Every location is hiring an absurd amount of people for different positions.
    - There is a major revolving door in corporate, as well as the locations.
    - There is no training and protocols in place, company wide.
    - HR is on a power trip, and treats you disrespectfully and unprofessionally. Yet if you ever have a problem and go to them about it, they can't be bothered. You're lucky to get a call back.

This is literally the most toxic and outrageous working environment I have ever had the displeasure of being associated with.

I have been working at XpresSpa full-time

    Pros

Interviewing Massage Therapists is about the only perk to this job.
The employees look out for each other for the most part.
    Good camaraderie.

    Cons

    Everything!
Incredibly high turn over in Corporate Office and Management.
    Complete lack of training process.
If you are a manager you will NEVER get a raise even if your work load increases.
Company does not care about employees on any level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Compensate management appropriately.
Actually show that they care about employees.
    Invest in people.

I have been working at XpresSpa

    Pros

    kind, generous, dynamic owners
    Awesome concept

    Cons

Horrific HR on a power trip
Intimidating, mean, brash and abrasive. The reason many of my colleagues have already left. I work in the field often but visit the headquarters regularly and nobody can stand working day-to-day with this person. All-around toxic corporate environment based 90% on HR

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

remove the person responsible for the revolving door and negative reputation of the office.

I have been working at XpresSpa full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    I had great coworkers that I will dearly miss . . .

    Cons

This is by far the worst company that I have EVER worked for!
No pay increases-it doesn't matter how long you've been there
    Absolutely no growth opportunities!
Upper management has no idea what goes on, on the spa level-I had been there two years and finally a CEO came to town with this BS of a benefits presentation.
The manager they did have in place basically ran the spa into the ground and a huge amount of our staff quit, which left us working 50+ hours per week!.
There is too much turn over on every level of the company.
Way too much of, "the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing," and this is why the spa is crumbling!
I am anticipating the day that I hear that XpresSpa has been closed!
They do not know how to treat their employees and they are horrid at running a company!!!
I am honestly praying that the world is soon rid of XresSpa >:-/
