ProsOther than the pay there isn't much that's good to say about this company.

ConsManagement is ruled by the union. They are bound by what the union wants and there isn't much wiggle room.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

A Company That is Running Off the Road

    Dock Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsCorporate Headquarters. Good health benefits. Senior management means well, but when conversations begin with "I'm not a racist, but..." you know you are about to hear something chilling.

ConsDiversity of thought, look, lifestyle, and culture is discouraged. New ideas and technology are threatening. Systems are not integrated and much work is done just to "keep on truckin" but never moving forward. No raises for years, and none in sight makes for a demotivated workforce. The morale is swirling in an abyss. No 401K match. Bullying and name calling is practiced at all levels.

Advice to Senior ManagementPolicies are outright discriminatory, going as far as to target minority populations and discourage inclusion. If you want a company that moves freight to move forward, you must be open to new ideas, new ways of doing things, and new ideas.

Company continues to move in the wrong direction since merging Yellow and Roadway.

    Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Milwaukee, WI

ProsAbout the only reason right now to work for YRC would be to collect a check to pay your bills. It is that simple right now.

ConsUpper management continues to make decisions which benefit themselves only. They continue to add new layers of sales management which make it tough for the field sales to do their job. More and more time is taken away from face to face sales. Spreadsheets, conference calls, webinar a, meetings etc. remain their focus. This brings no value to the customer. Long hours no raises hurdles to not pay bonus money, there is no reward for hard work here, ever. There is NO YRCFreight culture - Yellow people work their way and Roadway people work their way.....daily in fighting and no stopping.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the multiple layers of upper sales management. Simplify don't add more mud to the puddle. Focus on the basics, pick it up, move it and deliver it without smashing it and losing it. There is a fraternity that takes care of themselves only leaving the front line employees and the customers without regard.

Very hostile, degrading & insecure environment

    Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Hamilton, NJ

ProsIf you are desperate for a paycheck.

ConsIf you are a union employee, you are protected. If you are a frontline manager, God help you. As a manager you are threatened constantly. Goals conflict with each other therefore you are not able to accomplish all. Upper management goes to great lengths to make your environment uncomfortable despite the daily serious challenges. Great deal of politics.

Advice to Senior ManagementRunning the company as if we are still in the 70s will eventually drive YRC out of business. Mistreating your frontline management while coddling the union will only make it difficult to attract dedicated talent. Breaking morale will & extreme micromanagement will further erode the company.

Getting worked to the grave. Being pushed to fatal exhaustion.

    Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Trenton, NJ

ProsSo long as you show-up, you will have a job.

ConsNo matter how hard you work, you can do no right. Your opinion and experience is worthless to upper management. Hours are horrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt appears decisions are based on computer models or from individuals who do not have a close relationship with the freight or customers or a strong understanding of the logistics in moving tons of freight everyday. A recent decision was made by upper management w/o frontline input. We are now understaffed, overworked, service is horrendous, no equipment & severely back logged. We actually had a staff member hospitalized related to this stress.

    Taking customers for a ride

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsThere are not many Pros

ConsThe union workers handle freight with no regards to customer satisfaction.
I witnessed countless times freight being loaded marked fragile being slammed in to trailers trying to get to fit.
Freight left out of shipments on purpose because it was a volume shot and all of it wouldn't fit
Food (candy, snacks) packages being ripped open and eaten.
Freight being lost for weeks on end.
    Freight is always late.
Care more about how much a trailer weighs rather than is the customers freight arriving on time
Shipment being loaded on leaking and substandard trailers.
EXPEDITED SHIPMENT IS A JOKE. STIme shipments are not tracked like they should and move with regular shipments YET customers pay more for it
    Customers shipments are damaged constantly.

    Outbound Shift Supervisor

    Outbound Supervisor (Former Employee)

ProsI can't think of a single pro. It was nice to have experience in a unionized setting on my resume.

ConsLong hours, management at my terminal didn't support eachother, the terminal manager was overworked and a dick , poor wages, difficult to get time off, and you're stuck dealing with whiny Teamster's that have poor work ethics.
