Still love the company despite company turmoil...

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI really enjoyed working at Yahoo! as I love the brand and the company culture. However, after 3+ years and 12 reorgs, I was tired of the ever-changing goals and senior leader turmoil. While there, alignment was not difficult to achieve as most folks wanted to do what's best for the company.

ConsMoving up was extremely difficult as many times, it really depended upon who you knew and how to leverage that relationship. There were constant reorgs, senior leader changes, and layoffs while I was there which served more as distractions.

Advice to Senior ManagementMany people including former Yahoos are still rooting for you. Keep pushing forward to rebuild the brand and doing what's best.

Overall good culture but lack of clear strategic direction

Vice President (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsReally smart group of people and leaders across the search team. The campus, benefits, and overall culture were very supportive and uplifting

ConsThe company lacked a core defined strategy, and as a result "every" group thought they were the top priority. As a result you had a significant amount of in-fighting between teams for resources, budget, and attention.

Prosgreat experience to learn about the business. Has a lot of potential to grow and was a great opportunity. I would recommend this company

ConsCompensation was not as good as I beleived it would be. I wanted a lot more than they offered. However experience is worth more than money.

    Still lots of potential there!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsI loved working for an iconic brand with a long history (within the internet time period anyway). Their editorial teams are top notch and they're doing a great job building a fantastic publishing platform.

ConsI was shocked to hear how poorly the product development process worked - even just to fix the many problems in the password reset process would take months! The "Winchester Mystery House" theory of many disparate silos within the world of Yahoo was totally spot on, and I'd seen and heard of teams working on very similar projects with no information sharing at all. I think the walls were starting to come down when I left, but there's a long way to go before there's an easy flow of communications between departments.

You get what you put into it

Media Manager (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsSurrounded by extremely smart and talented people. Work on products that are used by hundreds of million of people across the world. Benefits are great, as is the work-life balance. This company truly cares about employees and their families.

ConsIf you "thrive" in the startup environment, this is not the place for you. Everything has a process, or hierarchy, that must be followed. In such a massive organization, it's hard to stand out. Keep your sanity by going with the flow vs. trying to swim upstream.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the positive momentum, as well as continue to emphasize the happiness of employees.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
