Simple work, but if you work hard you stand out.

Banquet Server (Current Employee)
New Haven, CT

I have been working at Yale University part-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat pay, easy work. Something different every day. Once you get the hang of it you can work without constant supervision.

ConsA lot of the staff is lazy, and not everyone pulls their weight, and there really isn't much management can do about it.

Great pay for a student job! Really appreciate the opportunity to work as a student tech, would do it again.

Student Tech (Current Employee)
New Haven, CT

I have been working at Yale University part-time for more than a year

Pros-Beautiful campus
-Friendly fellow employees
-Great attentive employers who will listen to your suggestions and implement them fairly quickly. Idea turnaround/innovation is great here.
-Everything is fairly centralized and close to each other; there isn't much travel time between locations.
-Training sessions are paid and fun!

Cons-Sometimes high-stress workload
-Expected to fix too many problems with too little resources (too little manpower).
-Sometimes understaffed
-Not much room to climb up (expected, though).

Student pay is great, hours are flexible

Student Tech (Current Employee)
New Haven, CT

I have been working at Yale University part-time for more than a year

ProsReally high student minimum wage, administrators/bosses are very sympathetic to student responsibilities and allow for flexible scheduling

ConsSometimes the responsibilities given to you at these student minimum wage jobs are very limited - not a whole lot of learning involved/irregular trainings

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter, more-regular training would greatly benefit both students and management. You won't have to hire as many employees if you just train the ones you already have well!

Pros-Great Environment

Yale has some of the best paid and happiest employers on a university campus.

Office Assistant (Current Employee)

ProsSalary is higher than in most higher education institutions and management is happy and well paid. New Haven isn't the most beautiful city but campus is gorgeous and safe.

ConsNew Haven is not the liveliest city for a young person. NYC is only a train ride away but nightlife is scarce.
