I have been working at Yale University

    Pros

    - Stipend is pretty competitive and makes most places to live affordable in New Haven
    - New Graduate Career Services merger with Undergraduate Career Services has opened up literally thousands of new doors for employer searches
    - Broader Yale community open to lateral movements from science to business to teaching

    Cons

    - New Haven as a function of being a smaller city just cannot compete with neighboring NYC and Boston
    - Typical graduate school experience of being at the whims of advisors. Committee system only applicable to some degrees and sometimes the committees are packed with people favorable only to advisors; not the best interest of students. But Yale should not strive for a middle of the pack graduate student experience; it should aim much higher.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Career services alone has provided tremendous resources, but adoption by senior faculty members is critical. Faculty advisors should be prodded by the administration to be more accepting and supportive of career paths outside of academia. Select faculty members do a great job at this, but its far from universal now

I worked at Yale University (more than a year)

    Pros

Student minimum wage was 11.50/hr at the time. My call center job required 7 hours per week and paid cash bonuses at the end of the night depending on performance. Cold-calling is boring, but it's a useful skill--I'm glad I did it.

    Cons
