    Pros

Management is very nice, great discount, get to work in a variety of areas

    Cons

Low pay, no growth, no benefits.

    Advice to Management

Hire full timers with benefits. You can't keep employees bc you don't offer anything. I loved my job their but needed health insurance and higher pay

    Pros

Yankee Candle has a great work environment. The job itself is not demanding but it is fun and I have always worked with great people.

    Cons

This job starts and minimum wage and does not go up much from there. It can also be very slow in the off times such as Summer or after Christmas.

    Pros

Great entry level to retail management. Private company and small business mentality, in a management sense. You can easily call the HR or home office with any questions or issues. Great employee discounts and simplistic floor resets. Never overnights. If you like routine, this is a great fit.

    Cons

Time off with a smaller store staff can always be a challenge. Small stock room, around holiday receiving increased shipments were a challenge. Sales goals were sometime unattainable. The store I was in was low traffic and low volume. I was bored and ready to take on more... little room for growth opportunity based on direct management.

    Advice to Management

if you want to move up, reach out to other stores in your district and ask about open positions.

    Pros

I love my job, I really do....Manager is awesome, fun, but she is a manager + has to do her job. Employees are great, we all get along. Discount is great.

    Cons

Pay is pretty bad.. And I hate the A.S.A.P., feel like I am harassing the customer. So many of my friends + neighbors won't shop at YC because of that. Hi, how are you today? Are you shopping for yourself today or someone else ? This is our new selection of candles, try a whiff. Tell customer about sales, promotions, etc.. Ask what their favorite scent is. Show them candle accessories. Ask if they need any car freshners, room deodorizers. Ask if they need a wick trimmer or luma lid. Ask for phone # + email address. Thank them and invite them to come back... IS ALL THAT REALLY NECESSARY ??

    Advice to Management

    reduce the A.S.A.P.'s...

    Pros

I loved the people I worked with. They were like family to me. The job was fun and had lots of perks like free samplers every quarter, contests, etc.

    Cons

Like nearly every retailer, the processes are outdated and not everything is run efficiently. There isn't a lot of room to grow within the company without working 50+ hours a week.

    Advice to Management

Store employees know the in's and out of the customers so it would be great to consider taking (or acknowledging) the advice of sales associates for example label the products on the bottom with either their jar type (Large Jar etc) or put oz on prices throughout stores.)

    Pros

Great coworkers and an excellent returning customer base. You can stand behind what you are selling because they are great candles! The amount of employees in each store is small maybe 5-10 at max. so it's easy for everyone to get along and people notice you. The Employee Discount is fantastic! It's a fun part time work environment.

    Cons

Poor poor pay. Sales Associates start at minimum wage and 2nd Assistant Managers aren't much up from that. It's sad to see you could easily go across the mall to Bath and Body Works and make $2 more an hour. District manager (at least in the one I worked in) is all about numbers. He doesn't take time to learn about the employees at each store and only cares that they are making him look good. If I were him I would want to make sure my employees are happy since they are the ones making the money not him. For every one good thing you do, he always find something to complain about.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees! Be flexible and know that things come up in life. Getting a schedule change is harder than getting teeth pulled. Also make schedules more fair. Store managers work their 40 hours and are out of there. When their store is short staffed they don't work above and beyond 40 hours and instead make their minions pick up the slack. People need a weekend off occasionally too....and Store managers always give themselves Sundays off. They should be required to work Sundays on a rotating schedule with assistant managers.
