I have been working at Yellow Pages Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many work from home sales & management positions, solid expense reimbursement, company IPhone, Tons of training (including a 5 week new-hire training) very competitive compensation, great people, above average vacation time (starts at 3 weeks), above average benefits, company contributes 5% to RRSP. New CEO and new company mission is focused on creating a better client experience.

    Cons

Union environment... even in sales department. The company is going through a difficult transition where there is constant change of systems & products / services.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on the customer and change the perception of the company.

    Pros

Colleagues are friendly and you have competent managers to guide you in the right direction. You start with a lower base salary, but after training you're given commission right away (after first month you don't sell anything you're on a deficit) to work for your money. It's hard work in the beginning but like in any sales / business development role, you build your sales forecast and the money will come. Sell small packages and you will still make lots of money.

    Cons

You can spend time working on clients that will will never buy any advertising. You need to manage expectations for you and your customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make better decisions on guiding the business in the right direction.

I worked at Yellow Pages Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent basic wages, great bonus / (realistic targets, most of the time). Genuine uncapped bonus. You have full internet access and as long as you are doing your job and trying hard, you are generally left alone to get on with it. If you respect your boss, they respect you back & actually take onboard feedback. There are no official breaks, other than lunch hour, however you are allowed to take a short break when you need one, and as long as its not too often, for too long, then its fine.

    Cons

Selling products you know aren't fully developed yet / will get better in the near future. Dealing with being a 'cold caller' to businesses. Staying later to hit target when its counter productive as you are too tired to do your job properly when its past home-time. Work/life balance isn't great. You earn a ton of money, but can't get enough time off to spend it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review prices on the online products - cyberspace shouldn't be that costly. Ditch the hard-copy of the YP directory, save a fortune on printing an distribution an listen to what customers say 'they bin it' in favour of the online directory.
