I worked at York University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very nice medical coverage policy, for dental and prescription, which is called CUPE plan.
Security of job and a good balance in the workload.

    Cons

Red tape: there are a lot of formalities involved and you have to plan for every move well ahead of time... My work was at times hindered because of the waiting for the approvals from management which could take months.
Another drawback is the campus safety which is a matter of concern.

I have been working at York University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Paid well, nice people. We are given a 20k scholarship if you go in with an A average. If you are not, the tuition isn't that bad, unless you are an international student. If you are an international student, you pay triple the tuition.

    Cons

School was hard. Work-life balance was difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more funding to the stats department. We try really hard with what we have. They cut more funding because we keep trying harder to meet the goals, and when we meet them they cut it more.

I worked at York University as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I was given a lot of independence in my role and had a very supportive team. I was able to learn a lot and made some excellent connections. Got to meet the President.

I worked at York University part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible. Good for offsetting costs while doing your studies. Also it looks good on the old resume when applying to jobs in the future..

Opportunity to take seminars in research methods and advanced stats as well as statistical programming

    Cons

    Repetitive nature of the job.
Middle management can be overbearing at times, treating the research assistants like machines rather than people.
