I worked at Young's Market full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Family owned and operated. The Underwood family is a great family that runs the company with integrity and ethics.

    Cons

It's difficult to cross into other departments. For example from Marketing to Sales.

I worked at Young's Market full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I found the company very rewarding and fun. Working around alcohol is serious business, but you get all sorts of fringe benefits. Good work hours, bosses micromanage minimally, and you get bonuses.

    Cons

OND (October, November, and December) are hellish months in this industry. Don't expect to take time off, since they are hardcore in sales mode. They do nearly 50% of their sales in just these few months, you do that math! The sales positions can be extremely stressful, especially if you have low-performing accounts (Rite-Aid, Walgreens, stores where the managers don't have the power to make sales decisions). They also have a penchant for hiring recent college grads and burning them out (or they are not meant for the industry).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees a bit more and coach them. The art of sales is quite complex and can be stressful for everyone at all levels, especially new hires.

I have been working at Young's Market full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This company is fantastic! The management is honest and empathetic towards all of the hard work the sales team produces. The pay is great and there are several opportunities to make monthly bonuses on top of base pay. This is a family owned company with fantastic morals.

    Cons

The warehouse operations are terrible. Several delivery issues on a daily basis. This leaves the responsibility 9 out of 10 times to the account manager, which consumes a lot of time. Complete waste of the company's money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Separate from Columbia Distributing. The money and time that could be saved on Account Manager's delivering the product would be well worth the extra expense to have your own warehouse and operations.

I worked at Young's Market full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, great job security, awesome people. Client relationships are very rewarding and you have tons of autonomy.

    Cons

If you are looking to add professional skills, sales trainings, management courses etc to your resume this is not the place to work. They are looking for soldiers, not to grow people. The training system is essentially trial by fire. Dozens of "weekly" initiatives take away from the core goal of building revenue and value with customers on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make clear, long term goals for employees and do not constantly deviate. Clean up supplier funded management incentives so that sales personnel are not being repurposed every couple days.

I have been working at Young's Market full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly, upbeat place to work. Company perks include nice meals and product sampling. Great rapport from top down. Beautiful office and facilities. Quick to update equipment. Encourage company-assisted education. No weekend work.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for income increase for office staff - tight with wage funds. Overtime is discouraged which is nice but doesn't help when there is a lot of extra work to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a living wage to your office employees. Keep the positive attitude flowing.

    Pros

Lots of independence. A real feeling of team and teamwork. Strong middle management leadership. Travel opportunities. They take care of their people and try to set you up for a long term successful career.

    Cons

Work/life balance is way off. Lifestyle position, this job is a way of life. Lots of changes in upper/middle management.

    Pros

Exciting field, fun coworkers and work environment, opportunities for professional training and development

    Cons

Minor cons: Obvious sexism from senior management in promotion practices, finger pointing, lack of prep, lazy employees still pass evaluations

I worked at Young's Market full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This company gives you the opportunity to work with world renowned brands, and the good people that represent them. This is a great starting place for someone that wants to enter into the Wine and Spirits business world.

    Cons

It’s a nice place to work if you are looking for a job. However, if you are looking for a career, be cautious. This is a wholesaler and the company does not own the brands that it sells. Many major suppliers have walked away from this company over the past ten years. If you want to work here, be ready for change and roll with it - continually.

    I worked at Young's Market

    Pros

The harder you work the more you earn. You get to work on you own the majority of the time.

    Cons

It is alot more lifting and building then selling. 95% building and unloading shipments and about 5% selling. They really under sell that in the interview.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just be honest it is A LOT of lifting and building.
