Good entry-level experience. Management & environment are terrible.

    (Current Employee)

ProsThis job serves as a great place for young professionals to get entry-level experience in the tech world. It provides good training and experience communicating with business professionals and knowledge about today's IT systems.

ConsZiff Davis has absolutely no idea how to manage their employees. They are terrible at communicating their expectations and constantly put-down their team. They rarely provide rewards or positive reinforcement for good performance. The environment in the office is catty and immature. Management as well as the employees are constantly gossiping about one another and the manner in which managers speak to their employees is terribly unprofessional and rude. Team moral in the office is almost always low. Most employees are unhappy or are looking to leave after a few months. Ziff Davis is the epitome of poor management in the professional world.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your employees more positive reinforcement and encouragement. Managers needs to be more professional when speaking to their employees. The level of professionalism and maturity in the office needs a drastic change.

Since the magazine folded it hasn't been the same

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsThere used to be a lot of events and parties that were really great and showed us we were appreciated.

ConsThe management was chauvinistic at times and their inability to make the magazine a viable entity was inexcusable. They could have kept it afloat but bad management and cost cutting without considering the effects killed it.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe there should be a review of how the management performs and the way they speak to and treat their staff. Instead of yelling at people and berating them then laughing about it later which I saw happen on two different occasions.

    Watch Your Back

    (Current Employee)

ProsGood pay and work life balance. Interesting, innovative clients.

ConsLots of lay-offs and employees let go. Many times, it isn't even announced and when I asked why I was told it would "needlessly upset people." The people who get let go don't get much (if anything) in the way of severance. Management is desperate to make their numbers to avoid being let go themselves and behave accordingly. (Also, take the reviewer who claims this is a subsidiary of CBSi with a grain of salt, it isn't. We compete with CBSi).

Advice to Senior ManagementEncouraging people to compete with one another internally is counter productive. You should focus on building long term relationships with your clients, rather than desperately trying to hit this quarter's numbers.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
