I have been working at Zimmer

    Pros

Good pay. Interesting products. Claim that they want a high performance culture. However, management insists on forced ranking which encourages competition and undercutting each other.

    Cons

People stretched doing work of 2-3 ppl due to policy of not replacing those who leave. Threat of layoffs due to the merger with Biomet. Constant hassle from project managers with unreasonable expectations for turnaround time given number of assignments. Upper management has not adjusted expectations of work output to the reduced size of workforce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can't expect the same level of output from fewer employees if you want those who are left to be content. Wake up. Morale is low and good people are bailing.

    Pros

You get to carry great products

    Cons

Local management are lame ducks milking the area for everything it is worth within the territory run by advantage. Policies are ridiculous and reps are just maintaining as opposed to selling.

I worked at Zimmer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fairly autonomous position, good benefits, good work-life balance, decent ability to float ideas, flexible schedule, many paid holidays, creative co-workers

    Cons

Too focused on the bottom line, Operations never recognized, no career guidance/progression, management must get promoted or get fired, no direction, impossible to make improvements due to excessive layers of management and overly specific procedures, Quality department controls operations, NO focus on the customer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop practicing the GE 1% rule and firing your best management every year. Stop fostering the competition between managers, build a team environment.

I have been working at Zimmer

    Pros

Great people until the Sr Manager level, very passionate about the company and take pride in what they do

    Cons

Leadership has no vision. No sound understanding of how a company should be run.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand the market and develop core competency. Sales alone will not help the company in the long run

    I worked at Zimmer

    Pros

Good pay but not worth the hours worked. Coworkers were pleasant but scared to even talk. Social slow death.

    Cons

Management needs to stop skipping out on Fridays. There is no monitoring of management spending. Have never seen such wastefulness. No wonder expense management ideas wee squelched. They are afraid what they will find.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Control spending in HR. Watch your spending on corporate cards. What is wrong with the invoicing department. They are lost. Why is a company the size if Zimmer paying late bills? Don't you know how much late fees are. Seems like a simple problem to fix. You can't pick and choose what bills to pay every month. Why aren't bills going to a central location ( all bills). Who is trying to hide what. Ask yourself.

I worked at Zimmer full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The work is easy, the pay is decent for what the job entails, most employees are pleasant to work with.

    Cons

Management will force unpaid overtime and will change time cards after the fact to remove hours worked, inadequate training, poor communication between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees according to the law. Don't allow supervisors to force unpaid overtime or to change time clock punches.

I worked at Zimmer as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    the pay is decent
you get to know about the corporate world which school would never teach you

    Cons

infrastructure is bad. people are under constant stress.
the company follows a bad hiring policy. they hire a lot of contingent workforce. so the contract employees always feel insecure about their job and can't give their 100% on what they do
many full time employees have left their job due to the management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

respect your employees. contractors are not your slaves.

I have been working at Zimmer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

New training facility, technology as strongest implant (tantalum). Parent company is a strong brand in the orthopedic world but they do not invest in this division. It's hard to come up with positives. This division is troubled.

    Cons

Worst place I have ever worked in my career. Management team is constantly restructuring and has no decision making abilities to back fill vacancies. Poor treatment of employees. I am soon to leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a serious morale problem. Hire an Management consultant and work on changing the culture to match your "Do The Right Thing" mission statement. Culture effects every area of the business.

I have been working at Zimmer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -GREAT products
    -Respected in the industry

    Cons

-the morale of the sales force is horrible
-Reps are stretched way too thin, with an enormous bag of products (and little support or resources)
-the distributor model is no longer effective, new reps are not given fair opportunities to grow or make money
-transparency is poor (half the time customers know more about what's going on with Zimmer before you do)
-I don't even know what Zimmer's mission is and I've worked for the company for 5 years.....I guess patient care and the purpose of our products don't matter to shareholders??

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward sales reps, we thrive off of competitive compensation for hard work.
Stop treating reps like we're invisible, when in fact WE are at the front line.
National Sales Meeting even sucks...it's 1 time a year, stop cutting corners.
