I have been working at Zimmer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The salary and benefit package is superb. There is a lot of career opportunities if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

There is no work/life balance, and it is very apparent that there are a lot of people who are very disgruntle.

I have been working at Zimmer full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They some of the most talented people I have had the joy to work with, but most now see the company as a training ground and then go on their way to different companies with less stress and better oppurtunity to advance.

    Cons

The moral is as low as I have ever seen. Less benefits at a higher cost, taking easy things like vacation away and removing some of the floating holidays. They are slowing stripping away all the reasons people come to a big company like Zimmer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop taking surveys if you only plan on making it stick to my immediate manager. the problems arise 2 levels higher. Stop using the lowest 5% rule to get rid of people. After many years of this, people rules as valued contributors are being force ranked into lower classes.

I worked at Zimmer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you want to learn the orthopedic implant industry this is a good place to cut your teeth. Amount of information available to study and learn is substantial.

    Cons

No strategic plan outside of sales growth. No career plan and advancement opportunities. The development plans changed on an annual basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask yourself why certain business units fail and then look to your leadership you have in place.

I worked at Zimmer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits, trying to make good moves. They are a overall good, solid company.

    Cons

Decisions take forever. My manager was way over his head. Either his boss was too and could't tell, or they just didn't care enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train managers to manage people, trust yet verify. When you move a good rep to a manager without training them or without specific training skills, all you do is lose a good rep and make a bad manager.

My experience with Zimmer has been mediocre. For the medical device industry, I think they are a solid company.

    Pros

Well known company with great benefits. Most of the indirect distributors have now been taken over by corporate, cutting commissions significantly. Great products that I believe in.

    Cons

Corporate takes forever to do anything. In the industry in general as a medical device rep, work-life balance can be very poor, this is not inclusive to Zimmer. A lot of inventory issues going on right now.

    Pros

Zimmer does a great job training and educating their workforce.

    Cons

You will be pigeon holed into a job. Once you work on and complete a project, your next assignment will be more of the same. Promotions consistently coincided with the successful completion of the project. If you were on a long term project or in a role that wasn't project based, promotions were unlikely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thanks for training me in medical devices. What you taught me has served me well in subsequent roles and companies.
