My experience with Zimmer has been mediocre. For the medical device industry, I think they are a solid company.

    Sales Representative (Current Employee)

ProsWell known company with great benefits. Most of the indirect distributors have now been taken over by corporate, cutting commissions significantly. Great products that I believe in.

ConsCorporate takes forever to do anything. In the industry in general as a medical device rep, work-life balance can be very poor, this is not inclusive to Zimmer. A lot of inventory issues going on right now.

    Contract development Engineer

Development Engineer (Current Employee) Warsaw, IN

ProsI work as a contract develoment engineer. Contractors have decent pay.

ConsContractors aren't allowed to use Zimmer gyms or changing rooms, almost no benefits. "Suggested" 50 hour weeks.

A good company to be "From"

Senior Development Engineer I (Former Employee) Warsaw, IN

ProsZimmer does a great job training and educating their workforce.

ConsYou will be pigeon holed into a job. Once you work on and complete a project, your next assignment will be more of the same. Promotions consistently coincided with the successful completion of the project. If you were on a long term project or in a role that wasn't project based, promotions were unlikely.

Advice to Senior ManagementThanks for training me in medical devices. What you taught me has served me well in subsequent roles and companies.

“Good company, poor direction from upper management”

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

ProsGreat product and concern for the patient, which is what should be done.

ConsBlindly lead into the fray without education defined by management. Yes the bottom line is what is most important even when good employees are left behind. They will not support their offer letter and any content of those letters should be in a contract.
Upper management seems to lack direction and the ability to communicate effectively . They will always meet their bottom line - even at the expense of valuable employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementManager is not just a title and really manage your people.

Not wanting to be in the bottom 5%

Senior Manufacturing Supervisor (Former Employee) Warsaw, IN

    ProsBenefits and Salary Very good

ConsSupervisory Management Evaluations based on Gallup system. The idea of eliminating your bottom 5% every year based on employee surveys, does not allow for independent ideas or holding hourly employees to goals and company rules. No local middle housing market, either very expensive or unlivable family housing.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a new engaged CEO, that will clean up management. 15 Total FDA 483's and the shutdown of Puerto Rico facility is inexcusable. Indicates no idea what the manufacturing business is doing. Same goes for VP of Manufacturing and all Manufacturing Managers.

    Horrible Management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLoved the people I worked with, they made it amazing.

ConsEmployees are not treated as humans, they are treated like computers. Management acts like they were trained at the local zoo. (ONLY AT THE CORPORATE LEVEL) Training was horrible, just a bunch of people (Managers) sitting around and telling you how you will do something or else.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have some very talented individuals working for this organization. Take into consideration their lives and families. Larger companies have fallen because of poor management. Eventually the sheep will not come back to the farm if the poor management continues.

    Disapointing

    Territory Sales (Current Employee)

ProsGreat products! Great place to start in medical sales if a rep will mentor you. Can usually get a one year guarantee to build territory!

ConsWorst leadership, distributor model in a direct market, personal expenses higher than potential income, viewed as advasary not asset by customers who want soul source suppliers.

Advice to Senior ManagementReach out and touch the front line reps directly not just the distributors Touch your customers directly, develop a C suite sales initiative to sell top down, everyone else is!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
