I have been working at Zimmer

    Pros

This is a stable company, in a good growing industry. They do many things well. Quality products. Financially driven. Results oriented. Resources to get things done. Low cost of living in northern Indiana. The pending merger bodes well to shake things up.

    Cons

A tendency for short-term vision to satisfy shareholder interests can translate to a loss in longer-term strategic action. Many layers of entrenched bureaucracy can be an impediment to new ideas and can suppress upward mobility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out how to manage talent better. Consider 360 reviews. Because employees report only upwards to a direct manager means that peer-to-peer internal customer service is not systematically recognized or rewarded.

I have been working at Zimmer

    Pros

Great people, for the most part. There are very few people I dislike working with. There were some bumpy years, but things have smoothed out. Exciting future after the acquisition closes, though there's some level of uncertainty with any acquisition.

    Cons

Acquisition is also a con with job security a concern. Upper management does have a reputation for having a "their way or the highway" approach, but so far their decisions have worked out. If you don't live in Warsaw, there is a very hard limit in how far you can go in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent. The rumor mill is going to bite everyone in the rear pretty soon. Be more open to promoting people not in Warsaw to higher levels.

I have been working at Zimmer

    Pros

    The benefits offered are great.

    Cons

Upper management at the corporate level seem to make decisions based off of very little knowledge of what goes on down at the level where most work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to visit distributorships and really learn the intricacies of our daily tasks so they can truly understand how their decisions pact the organization.

    Pros

A continuously growing company with culture that is slowly changing to appreciate the employees once again.

    Cons

Slow to make change. Salary level pay seems to be trending down compared to other medical device manufacturers.

I have been working at Zimmer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great industry and our products are changing our patients lives in a positive way
Highly competitive salary with the added bonus of living in a low cost of living area (NE Indiana)
Personal development and growth opportunties are endless if you are willing to put in the hard work
Surrounded by very bright and experienced co-workers that are dedicated to the company
The culture is starting to change and the CEO appears to be dedicated to creating a healthier culture
Willingness to provide the necessary resources to achieve our highest priorities (Quality Excellence, Trident, etc.)
Bright future with the pending merger with Biomet

    Cons

Vacation and holiday time is not as competitive as it was in the past
Our systems and processes make it challenging to do our job efficiently. (i.e. expense reports, travel, purchase orders)
Lack of diversity in management positions and no real desire from leadership to change it
Quick to make decisions at the top but we want to execute before we've taken the time to do thoughtful planning
Lots of red tape to get through to accomplish anything
Decisions are made at the top levels of the company only

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be brave and willing to change the things that aren't working even if that means shaking up your leadership team. Stop being so conservative and try things we've never been wiling to try in the past. Changing the dress code recently despite an unwillingness in the past is a good first step. Talk to your employees - they have lots of ideas if you are willing to ask but more importantly to listen.

    Pros

Working relationships with Supervisors and coworkers

    Cons

Would be the drama of older coworkers that put alot of negativity and annoyance into not doing there jib and harassing people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to investigate and be fair on how employees are disciplined. A lot of of good employees have been terninatedvon hear say because of disgruntled coworkers.
